This is a functional management role. The Platform, DevOps & Data Manager will manage people, capacity, hiring, performance feedback, delivery discipline, standards, escalation, and team structure for DevOps / Platform and DBA / Data Platform resources. This role will work closely with Software Engineering, Infrastructure & Security, Product / Delivery, QA, and business stakeholders to reduce production risk and improve delivery reliability.

This role is not only a cloud transformation or modern platform tooling role. The right candidate must be comfortable supporting current business-critical systems, hybrid infrastructure, SQL Server-backed applications, release pipelines, production environments, monitoring gaps, and practical modernization needs.

This role will work hybrid from our Austin, TX office.

Insight on Your Impact:

  • Build and manage the Platform, DevOps & Data function inside GEO, including team structure, hiring, onboarding, performance feedback, and capacity planning.
  • Own function-level delivery discipline for CI/CD, deployment automation, environment management, DBA / data platform work, monitoring / observability, and release support.
  • Establish practical standards for builds, deployments, environment promotion, release readiness, monitoring, alerting, backup / recovery coordination, and incident follow-up.
  • Lead DevOps / Platform resources responsible for Azure DevOps pipelines, source control practices, build automation, deployment automation, environment configuration, and developer tooling.
  • Lead DBA / Data Platform resources responsible for SQL Server reliability, performance, backup / recovery, HA / DR support, schema review, data platform support, and production escalation.
  • Partner with Software Engineering Managers and Product Group Team Leads / Architects to support reliable delivery of SourceCore, NLP, Mobile App / Computer Vision, Legacy PHP, and other internal platforms.
  • Partner with Infrastructure & Security leadership on hosting, networking, identity, access, security controls, disaster recovery, monitoring, and production incident response boundaries.
  • Improve visibility into build status, release readiness, environment health, database health, monitoring coverage, and operational risks.
  • Ensure platform, DevOps, and DBA work is planned, tracked, and reported through agreed delivery tools and processes, including Azure DevOps where applicable.
  • Create practical processes for L2 / L3 triage, escalation, root cause analysis, post-incident remediation, and recurring production risk reduction.
  • Identify single points of failure across release processes, database operations, environments, monitoring, and platform ownership, then build backup coverage and documentation.
  • Drive improvement in developer experience by reducing manual deployment work, unclear environment ownership, unreliable build processes, and avoidable operational toil.
  • Support data platform needs for reporting, integrations, ETL / ELT, analytics feeds, and internal business systems while keeping production database reliability as the first priority.
  • Track and communicate capacity, delivery progress, production risks, operational gaps, and remediation plans to GEO leadership and senior stakeholders.
  • Build a culture of ownership, practical automation, reliability, documentation, and calm incident response across DevOps, Platform, and DBA / Data Platform teams.

Your Qualifications, Your Influence:

  • 8+ years of experience across DevOps, platform engineering, database operations, site reliability, infrastructure engineering, data platform, or related technical functions.
  • 3+ years of experience leading or managing technical teams, preferably in a distributed or multi-location environment.
  • Strong practical understanding of CI/CD, release management, deployment automation, environment management, monitoring / observability, and incident response.
  • Experience managing teams that support business-critical production systems.
  • Strong understanding of SQL Server or similar relational database platforms, including performance, backup / recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, and production support expectations.
  • Experience working with engineering teams that build and operate enterprise applications, internal business platforms, ERP integrations, warehouse / operations systems, or B2B transaction platforms.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Git-based workflows, build / release pipelines, work tracking, and engineering reporting.
  • Ability to manage both operational support and improvement work without creating unnecessary process overhead.
  • Ability to define practical standards and enforce them across teams while still adapting to current technical reality.
  • Experience coordinating across Software Engineering, QA, DevOps, DBA, Infrastructure, Security, Product / Delivery, and business stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to explain production risks, delivery constraints, technical dependencies, and remediation priorities to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong ownership mindset, good judgment, and ability to make practical decisions under pressure during production or release issues.
  • Ability to build structure in an environment where process, ownership, and team boundaries are still being formalized.

Preferred Skills and Technical Familiarity:

  • Experience with Microsoft-based enterprise environments, including Windows Server, IIS, SQL Server, Active Directory, and Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups, backup / restore validation, DR planning, RPO / RTO expectations, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP, including hybrid cloud / on-prem environments.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, deployment automation, containers, Kubernetes, or cloud-native platform tooling where practically applicable.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Zabbix, Grafana, Prometheus, Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Datadog, Splunk, ELK, or similar.
  • Experience with ETL / ELT, data pipelines, SSIS, Airflow, dbt, data warehousing, reporting platforms, or analytics data feeds.

Success in the First 90 Days:

  • Understand Sourceability's current software delivery flow, release processes, environments, database platforms, monitoring coverage, and major production reliability risks.
  • Establish working relationships with Software Engineering, Product Group Team Leads / Architects, QA, DevOps, DBA, Infrastructure, Security, Product / Delivery, and business stakeholders.
  • Define the initial operating model for Platform, DevOps & Data inside GEO, including ownership boundaries with Software Engineering and Infrastructure & Security.
  • Create a practical capacity and hiring plan for DevOps / Platform and DBA / Data Platform coverage.
  • Improve visibility into CI/CD pipelines, deployments, environment readiness, database health, monitoring gaps, and operational risks.
  • Identify critical single points of failure in release processes, database operations, monitoring, and platform ownership, then propose backup coverage plans.
  • Establish initial standards for release readiness, deployment tracking, environment management, database change review, monitoring / alerting, and production incident follow-up.
  • Start moving platform, DevOps, and DBA work into consistent tracking and reporting through agreed tools such as Azure DevOps where applicable.
  • Deliver at least one practical improvement that reduces production risk, release friction, environment instability, or database operational risk.
  • Build trust with GEO leadership, engineering teams, infrastructure / security teams, and business stakeholders.

What This Role Does Not Own:

This role does not own product prioritization or business requirements. Product / Delivery Managers and business stakeholders remain responsible for intake, priority alignment, backlog readiness, UAT coordination, and business acceptance.

This role does not own application architecture for each product group. Product Group Team Leads / Architects remain responsible for application-level technical design and technical execution for assigned product groups.

This role does not replace Infrastructure & Security ownership for network, endpoint, identity, security operations, and physical / virtual infrastructure. It must work closely with Infrastructure & Security to define clear operational boundaries.

This role does not independently commit delivery dates for application work without alignment with Software Engineering Managers, Product / Delivery Managers, and relevant technical leads.

This role should not create a heavy centralized platform process that blocks delivery. The goal is practical reliability, visibility, automation, and support for engineering teams.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities
  • Collaborative global work environment
  • PTO
