Platform Architect

At ING Platform Architects are team members of Tech Strategy and Architecture who are responsible for owning and driving the Application Platform direction within the organization. As such, they have and demonstrate high technical skills not only through designs, application architectural patterns and integration best practices, but also by delivering small-scale proof of concepts to introduce platform innovation in the Engineering Teams.

The focus of this team of Platform Architects is the Applications’ Architecture, understanding and utilizing the infrastructure provided. We also review and communicate what is the best way to integrate existing application services to deliver new features., setting standards, reference architectures and aligning these back into the Australian landscape.

What you’ll do
 

• Design the Application Platform’s Architecture for non-functional aspects Security, Resilience and Reliability, Scalability, Data Integrity and Consistency, and Performance for best usage of the underlying infrastructure.

• Provides guidance to Engineers, managers and teams/squads for the platform by describing and showcasing design patterns in cookbooks, workshops and hackathons. Supports the Engineers in how these best practices can actually be implemented in practice.

• Deliver Proof of Concepts to provide evidence of the effectiveness of the proposed solution where needed

• Leverages and adapt standards industry frameworks for usage within ING. Collaborates in defining Global standards in collaboration with other Architects, Engineers, IT Leads, etc. of Head Office and other ING Group’s Countries.

• Ensure that the designs are implemented according to plan, minimizing complexity, technical debt and deviations due to tactical implementations.

• Helps the Business breaks down desired themes into epics and features across multiple platforms, that can be further refined into implementable stories

What we’re looking for

• 4+ Years experience in Enterprise Java with lightweight frameworks (Spring, Spring Boot) and strong disposition to exploration and experimentation.

• 2+ Years experience in data structures, application architecture and integration patterns, algorithms, and engineering best practices not only in coding, but also in quality and testing.

• Experience working on distributed application projects, cloud-native application factors and solving the fallacies of distributed computing using distributed application patterns.

• High awareness in Security in general (infrastructure, network, operations), and knowledge on various application security aspects such as Authentication and Authorization protocols, security frameworks, secure coding. Knowledge of PKI principles and practices, and identity management.

• Awareness of other Open Source Application Frameworks and Open Source contribution and collaboration models

• Awareness of messaging technologies like Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, etc.
