Pelican Plasma is seeking a Processing Technician to join our team at our plasma donation center in south Shreveport.  The Processing Tech is responsible for the accurate and timely sampling, testing, storage, and shipping of plasma collected from donors in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory guidelines.

Job Duties include:

  • Properly stores donated plasma units in freezer according to SOPs to ensure product quality
  • Verifies unit labels to ensure accuracy
  • Utilizes sterile technique to draw samples; performs all required quality controls
  • Packages and ships samples in accordance with SOPs and center procedures; prepares shipping and unit disposal documentation
  • Monitors freezer and refrigerator temperatures, recording variances
  • Conducts daily calibration of equipment according to SOPs
  • Performs computer data entry and general administrative duties with attention to accuracy and quality assurance
  • Maintains clean efficient work environment; follows all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures

Beginning rate of pay is $14/hr. Pelican offers a generous benefits package, including free medical, life and disability insurance; up to 6% employer contributions for 401k retirement plan; and paid time off.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus
  • At least three (3) months experience in laboratory or warehouse environment preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the job duties
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of computer equipment and software (DMS with training)
  • Must be dependable, punctual and have effective communication skills
  • Must demonstrate a positive approach toward donors and other staff members, acting in a highly professional manner at all times
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of donor information at all times
  • Demonstrated accuracy in complete and concurrent documentation 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS / ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to pull and lift equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs., unassisted  
  • Ability to perform duties requiring sitting, standing and bending for long periods of time without relief
  • Requires visual observation of equipment operation
  • Must be able to work flexible and/or extended shifts
  • Work involves exposure to infectious diseases from blood and blood products.
