Job Summary

The Plant Manager, Operations in Elk Grove Village, IL, leads a $90MM+ sheet metal, coil slitting, & panel forming operation within the Carlisle Architectural Metals Division. This facility runs across 2 shifts, 5 days a week, and includes 70+ indirect and direct labor teammates.

This role is pivotal in driving the implementation and sustainment of the Carlisle Operating System (COS), a structured approach to operational excellence that integrates lean principles, continuous improvement, and standardized work practices. The Plant Manager will champion COS initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and foster a culture of accountability and engagement throughout the plant.

The position is primarily a plant-based position with regular visits to the office. Typically, the majority (<80%) of a standard 10-to-12-hour workday will be spent standing and/or walking around the manufacturing floor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Champion Safety Culture
    Ensure all operations comply with applicable safety regulations, industry standards, and Carlisle safety policies. Lead regular safety audits, training programs, and proactive risk mitigation efforts to foster a zero-incident culture.
  • Lead Multi-Shift Manufacturing Operations
    Oversee all shifts of the non-union manufacturing facility, driving operational excellence through strategic planning and execution. Optimize manpower, equipment, materials, and capital assets to minimize costs and maximize throughput.
  • Manage and Develop Leadership Team
    Provide direct supervision, coaching, and formal performance management for the Production Supervisors, Materials Planners, Maintenance Technicians, Quality Technician, EHS/COS Champion, & Shipping & Receiving Manager. Indirectly lead 60+ non-exempt manufacturing employees, promoting accountability and engagement.
  • Drive Performance Through Metrics
    Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate operational efficiency. Implement data-driven improvements to reduce downtime, enhance productivity, and optimize resource utilization. Deliver regular performance reports and maintain productivity dashboards to support continuous improvement.
  • Implement Carlisle Operating System (COS)
    Lead the deployment and sustainment of COS principles, including lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and cellular production. Use COS tools to eliminate waste, reduce process variation, and standardize best practices across the plant.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally
    Partner with human resources, customer fulfillment, maintenance, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless integration of manufacturing processes. Resolve operational challenges collaboratively and align plant activities with divisional goals.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders.
  • Leadership Style: Adaptable and hands-on leader who can balance strategic delegation with direct involvement. Demonstrated ability to assess when each approach is appropriate.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a track record of identifying root causes and implementing effective, collaborative solutions.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software systems.
  • Self-Management: Capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Skilled in prioritizing tasks, organizing workflows, and managing project execution.
  • Attention to Detail: Consistently produces accurate, high-quality work with strong follow-through in fast-paced, multitasking environments.
  • Professional Integrity: Demonstrates high levels of integrity, discretion, and professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information.

Education and Experience:

  • Required:
    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or a related field
    • Manufacturing Experience: Minimum of 10 years in a manufacturing environment, with demonstrated success in driving operational performance and continuous improvement.
    • Leadership Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role within a manufacturing environment. Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams across multiple functions and shifts.
  • Preferred:
    • Higher level of education such as MBA
    • Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other continuous improvement certifications
    • Experience with purchasing and/or materials costing is
    • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems integration and adoption; experience with SAP is a plus.
    • Demonstrated interest in staying current with trends and innovations in Manufacturing, Operations, Lean, and/or Automation Sciences. Professional memberships and certifications in related fields are strongly encouraged but not required.

Working Conditions:

  • Environment is generally an office and manufacturing setting. 
  • Fast paced manufacturing environment where workers are exposed to both ambient/outside temperatures and dust; working with mechanical parts and pinch points; exposure to increased noise levels. 
  • Exposure to hazardous mechanical, electrical and chemical substances/equipment. 
  • Confined workspaces.

As a Plant Manager, you will be entitled to the following: 

  • The Salary Range for this position is $167,000-$179,000
    • The final base compensation offered is based on educational achievements, professional experience, other qualifying factors & skillsets, and internal equity. While Carlisle Companies Inc is committed to Pay Transparency with this range, understand that candidates should not necessarily expect to see an offer near the top end of the posted range. 
  • Participation in the Incentive Compensation Program, which is subject to the terms and conditions of the program and may change at any time.

Skills Required
