ABOUT THE ROLE.

As the Plant Engineering Manager, you will report to the Plant Manager and lead the Maintenance Team. You will drive continuous improvement in the performance and reliability of plant equipment, striving for world-class standards. With a deep understanding of modern maintenance tools and techniques, you'll work to maximise equipment efficiency while ensuring the safest and most reliable food-safe operations.
You'll be a key player in the Senior Leadership Team, serving as an advocate for a proactive, reliability-centered approach. This role involves collaborating with the Regional Director of Maintenance on compliance, legislation, and budget management for repairs and maintenance (R&M).
Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing Health & Safety and Food Safety compliance to the highest standards.
  • Coaching and mentoring the maintenance team to unlock their full potential.
  • Supporting the reliability team by identifying comprehensive training for maintenance resources.
  • Leading the "McCain Driving Impact" initiative with a focus on data-driven, proactive maintenance routines.
  • Guiding teams in root cause analysis, asset criticality assessments, and using Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) tools.
  • Building strong partnerships with the plant's leadership team and external reliability partners to drive the regional strategy and support long-term goals.
  • Managing expectations of both internal and external stakeholders, with a commitment to customer-centric values.
  • Promoting cross-site communication for benchmarking and supporting maintenance maturity assessments, ensuring we stay ahead of the curve.
  • Establishing strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors, ensuring a competitive edge.


ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Strong people leadership skills with the ability to bring out the best in your people.
  • A Technical Degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Solid knowledge of Health and Safety standards in manufacturing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in senior leadership, working with diverse stakeholders.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing maintenance teams in a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) environment.
  • Proven ability to coach and facilitate cross-functional teams.
  • IOSH/NEBOSH certification.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards in food manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant digital tools.

WHERE WILL I BE BASED?
You'll be based at our Whittlesey plant in Peterborough. If you've spotted our three wind turbines, then you'll know where we are! With about 350 employees on site, we're one of our largest plants across the GB business. Our Whittlesey plant is where we make our famous French Fries as well as our chilled products, such as our Shake Shake Fries.
