Role Overview
An account in the Business Advisory division is responsible for managing client bookkeeping, preparing financial statements and tax returns, and ensuring compliance with relevant taxation legislation and statutory deadlines. The role involves analyzing financial information, completing BAS and payroll tax lodgments, and liaising with the ATO and financial institutions where required.
Working both independently and collaboratively, the accountant applies sound technical tax knowledge, strong analytical skills, and effective time management to deliver accurate outcomes, meet KPIs, and manage client deadlines efficiently.
Tasks, duties and responsibilities
• Perform bookkeeping duties, ensuring accurate and up-to-date financial records.
• Prepare individual, trust, and company tax returns in accordance with relevant legislation.
• Provide financial and taxation advice to clients, offering guidance to support informed decision-making.
• Maintain and monitor internal control systems to ensure compliance and efficiency.
• Review and analyze operating costs, income, and expenditure to support business performance.
• Liaise with financial institutions and the ATO to respond to queries and ensure smooth communication.
• Prepare financial statements and tax returns, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
• Complete BAS returns and lodge them in accordance with statutory deadlines.
Skills, knowledge and personal attributes
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Australian Accounting
- Ability to explain the basic principles and application of tax in a national and global economic context
- Ability to identify and apply tax rules for individuals and small businesses to ensure compliance
- Have a general understanding of capital gains tax and ability to prepare and apply basic calculations/concepts
- Ability to prepare and administer routine tax documentation for legal entities
- Ability to explain the nature and incidence of fringe benefits tax and goods and services tax
- Able to apply basic tax accounting principles (e.g., tax returns, tax records)
- Demonstrate ability to calculate the tax obligations for different business/taxation structures for non-complex scenarios
- Ability to work independently on smaller jobs
- Proactively manage workload and communicate jobs deadlines and workflow to managers and partners
- Ability to meet agreed KPI’s within the required and agreed budget
