Sentara Health is seeking a Clinical Chief of Neurosurgery in Norfolk, VA to serve a key role in ensuring clinical excellence, operational performance, and strategic growth of the neurosurgery division. We are seeking a physician leader with a visionary, growth-oriented mindset—someone equally passionate about advancing clinical care and supporting the next generation of neurosurgeons through academic engagement and training.
This leader will play a critical role in further developing a high-performing, multidisciplinary neuroscience program, with a focus on expanding cranial, spine, neuro-oncology, and neuropsychology services.
Position Highlights:
• Provide clinical leadership and operational oversight for the Neurosurgery division
• 70% clinical and 30% administrative split
• Clinical Environment: State-of-the-art ORs, advanced neurosurgical technologies, comprehensive outpatient clinics, and an experienced multidisciplinary team
• Support planning, accreditation, and launch of the upcoming neurosurgery residency program
• Serve as a key clinical and academic partner with Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University (EVMS at ODU), one of the largest and most comprehensive academic health sciences centers in Virginia
• Engage with a robust academic environment supporting 460+ residents and fellows across 50+ ACGME-accredited programs, with opportunities to shape neurosurgical training and education
• Collaborate across a large, interdisciplinary enterprise spanning five health sciences schools and 50+ academic programs, advancing innovation in neurosurgical education, research, and patient care
• Academic/Research: Academic appointment and research funding support available through EVMS at ODU
• Drive strategic growth and program development across cranial, spine, and neuro-oncology services
• Champion the integration and expansion of neuropsychology and multidisciplinary care models
• Lead initiatives focused on quality, patient safety, and clinical outcomes improvement
• Support recruitment, mentorship, and engagement efforts within the division
• Partner with hospital and system leadership on operational strategy, resource planning, and service line growth\
Reports to: VP/CMO, Surgical Services, Sentara Medical Group

Minimum Requirements:
• M.D. or D.O., licensed to practice in Virginia
• Board Certified in Neurosurgery
• At least five years of experience as a practicing physician
• At least one year of leadership experience
