Position Summary:
Provides care to patients in collaboration with physicians in the clinic and/or hospital following established standards and practices. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, physicians and the public.
Supervisory Relationships: Reports to Practice Manager. Collaborates with supervising physician.
Typical Physical Demands:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires normal vision acuity and hearing. May be exposed to communicable disease and bodily fluids. Requires working under stressful conditions or during irregular hours.
Typical Working Conditions:
Possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Evening and weekend work may be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients.
- Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
- Performs physical exam of patients and records findings. Collaborates with physicians in managing medical needs of patients.
- Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
- Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
- Administers medications and injections.
- Interviews and advises patients regarding health maintenance. Recommends community resources to meet patient needs.
- Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides patient education.
- Maintains and reviews patients records, charts, and other pertinent information. Reviews tests and examination results.
- Consults with supervising physician as appropriate.
- Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation.
- Manages medical emergencies.
- Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
Other Job Functions:
- Completes encounter form to ensure accurate billing.
- Attends meetings and participates in committees as requested.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
- Performs related work as required.
Required Qualifications:
An Advanced Practice Provider is Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant that is licensed healthcare provider who works in collaboration with a physician to provide care to patients. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care. Skill in taking medical history to assess medical condition and interpret findings. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly.
