Physician Assistants (PAs) are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. Common services provided by PAs include taking medical histories and performing physical examinations; ordering and interpreting lab tests; diagnosing and treating illnesses; prescribing medications and counseling patients. PAs work autonomously and also in collaboration with physicians and other health care team members.
For purposes of the OMH Medical Staff By-laws, Physician Assistants are considered dependent-practice allied health professionals and are credentialed through medical staff processes.
QualificationsQualifications:
Graduate of an AMA accredited Physician Assistant Program
Current unrestricted license to practice as PA in North Carolina
Maintains national certification
Current BLS and ACLS certification
Credentialed privileges per medical staff
Designated supervising physician per NCBOM
