Position Overview Section

SierTeK Ltd. is seeking an experienced Aerospace Medicine Physician / Medical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) and the Analysis of Waiver Risk Evidence (AWARE) team. The successful candidate will provide medical and aerospace medicine expertise in the interpretation, analysis, and application of readiness, medical, and operational data to support Air Force research, medical decision-making, force readiness, and operational effectiveness

 

Essential Job Functions

Medical and Aerospace Medicine Expertise

  • Provide medical subject matter expertise to the AWARE team, USAFSAM/FES, AMWD, and associated organizations on the interpretation, use, and analysis of medical, readiness, and operational data.
  • Provide expertise on the medical impacts of health conditions on military readiness, career progression, and operational performance.
  • Apply knowledge of Air Force and DoD medical processes, policies, and standards to support research and operational initiatives.
  • Provide expertise in aerospace medicine, occupational medicine, preventive medicine, and clinical and operational medicine.
  • Support investigation planning and the development of hypotheses related to medical conditions, readiness, accession, retention, and career progression.

Medical Record Analysis and Research Support

  • Analyze medical records and related data to support validation, verification, and hypothesis development.
  • Conduct analyses examining relationships between disease states present at accession and subsequent disease progression, career progression, and operational outcomes.
  • Assist multidisciplinary teams in interpreting medical findings and translating clinical information into meaningful analytical insights.
  • Support the development and interpretation of medical and operational data products in accordance with applicable HIPAA requirements and data use agreements.
  • Develop familiarity with Air Force medical records systems, data standards, and relevant government data repositories.

Data, Documentation, and Technical Products

  • Support the interpretation and analysis of medical, readiness, and operational datasets.
  • Develop and contribute to journal publications, background papers, consultation documentation, technical reports, and other written products.
  • Assist in drafting internal and external communications related to medical research, operational medicine, and study findings.
  • Develop PowerPoint presentations, briefing materials, technical documents, and other deliverables as required.
  • Support knowledge transfer by documenting study findings, analytical products, and relevant medical insights for government customers and stakeholders.

Scientific Publications and Conference Support

  • Support the preparation and publication of peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts.
  • Assist with the development of conference posters, presentations, abstracts, and other professional materials.
  • Participate actively in relevant professional conferences and scientific meetings.
  • Support the dissemination of research findings and analytical products to appropriate professional and military audiences.

Briefings and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a medical subject matter expert on readiness, medical, and operational data for USAFSAM/FES leadership and staff.
  • Interface with other USAFSAM organizations, Air Force subject matter experts, DoD professionals, researchers, and government stakeholders.
  • Brief study findings and research results at meetings, technical forums, and other venues as directed by the Government.
  • Assist in developing and delivering briefings to transfer knowledge of study findings and products to Air Force Recruiting Service (AFRS) and Air Force stakeholders.
  • Provide medical expertise and technical consultation to multidisciplinary teams supporting Air Force research and readiness initiatives.
Qualifications

Minimum Position Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • 5–10 years of professional experience in a relevant medical or aerospace medicine environment.
  • Residency training in Aerospace Medicine; related residency training in Occupational Medicine or Preventive Medicine may be considered.
  • Expert knowledge of aerospace clinical and operational medicine.
  • Board certification through an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) member board.
  • Completion of a Department of Defense-approved Aerospace Medicine Primary course.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience providing preventive medicine services, including aerospace, occupational, and preventive medicine.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and complete organizational and professional responsibilities effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, government personnel, and medical and technical subject matter experts.
  • Proficiency with, or the ability to quickly develop proficiency in, applicable Air Force medical systems, including:
    • Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA)
    • MHS GENESIS
    • Aeromedical Services Information Management System (ASIMS)
    • Automated Data System (ADS)
    • Aeromedical Information Management Waiver Tracking System (AIMWTS)
    • Physical Examination Processing Program (PEPP)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required access to government medical, personnel, and operational data systems.
  • Ability to comply with HIPAA, applicable data use agreements, and government information protection requirements.
  • Ability to execute a company Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) due to potential access to confidential, proprietary, and sensitive information.

Highly Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the mission, organization, goals, objectives, policies, and operational environment of USAFSAM and the 711th Human Performance Wing (711 HPW).
  • Prior MAJCOM-level or equivalent experience serving as a Chief of Aerospace Medicine (SGP).
  • Board certification specifically in Aerospace Medicine.
  • Peer-reviewed publications in aerospace, aviation, occupational, public health, or clinical medicine journals.
  • Experience or knowledge of the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) process and requirements for ensuring applicants meet Department of the Air Force (DAF) and DoD accession standards.
