Job Description:

This position exists to manage the operation, maintenance, and repair of all college buildings, building control systems, roads, grounds, and related infrastructure. The incumbent supervises facilities staff and oversees the work of contractors performing facility projects.

Duties include working with the Vice President of Finance and Administration and architects to plan and manage capital bonding, HEAPR projects, and to plan and manage major repairs, renovations, and new construction projects. This position develops budget requests and recommendations for the Vice President of Administration to ensure that sufficient financial resources are available to support facility operation and maintenance.

This position is responsible for complying with regulations from agencies such as OSHA, Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, Minnesota Pollution Control to ensure that the college has a safe, comfortable learning and work environment.

The incumbent manages the maintenance, repair and replacement, parking, and energy rebate budgets. The position reports to the Vice President of Administration.

Salary Range: $40.23-$57.94 hourly, $84,000-$120,979 annually

*Salary placement is dependent on education and experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible facilities management experience overseeing building operations and maintenance, including physical plant systems, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, grounds maintenance, heavy equipment, and building maintenance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and building systems sufficient to oversee preventive maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and regulatory compliance with applicable local, state, federal, OSHA, environmental, and other applicable regulatory requirements and codes.
  • Possession of a valid Minnesota First Class Boiler Engineer's License, or higher.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory or lead work experience with responsibility for assigning work, evaluating performance, coaching employees, staff development, and building effective teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and experience using computerized maintenance management systems or similar software for work order management, reporting, budget tracking, and communications.
  • Experience developing, administering, and monitoring operating and capital budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and contributing to an inclusive and respectful workplace environment.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, Industrial Technology, or a closely related field; OR an Associate degree in a related field and five (5) additional years of directly related experience.
  • Experience managing physical plant operations within a college, university, or other large, complex institutional environment.
  • Experience administering and interpreting collective bargaining agreements and working within a unionized environment.
  • Experience managing construction, renovation, and capital improvement projects from planning and design through commissioning and closeout.
  • Experience preparing cost estimates, forecasting material and equipment needs, managing inventories, and procuring supplies and equipment.
