As part of our expansion, we are currently looking for a suitably motivated - Photonics Systems Engineer - to join our group.

What you'll do

  • Support the development of photonic package concepts, package process development, and their related design rules
  • Propose innovative solutions to meet photonics networking and PIC-based product or market requirements
  • Optimise the integration, form and function of photonic systems amongst their optical, mechanical, and environmental surroundings on the satellite.
  • Procurement selection and qualification of photonic components and suppliers
  • Direct and/or conduct optical experiments needed to support design efforts
  • Quality control and yield analysis to provide feedback for design optimisation
  • Train design and assembly team members on design principles and practices for packaging
  • Project coordination with clients and across multidisciplinary teams to ensure project requirements and delivery schedules are met
  • Project management, planning and progress documentation
  • Layout (convert designs into GDSII format) as required
  • CAD for packaging as required
  • Write proposals, bids, and reports for space agencies and national funding bodies

Who you are

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of photonics principles and optical components.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment and measurement techniques.
  • Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.  
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

What We Do

MBRYONICS designs, engineers, and manufactures optical payloads (optical communications and photonics) and optical ground stations for next generation extremely high throughput hybrid Optical/RF satellite systems, optical mesh networks, optical relays, and autonomous optical sensor networks for high precision space domain awareness. We specialise in both the design and MAIT of optical and photonics systems for industrialised series production. MBRYONICS is pioneering the use of and industrialisation of FreeForm optics and photonic integrated circuits for space systems, including inter-satellite communications, optical feeder links, intra-satellite communications (analogue/digital) and microwave photonics applications. We have nearly two decades of experience in research and development on some of the most challenging photonics and optics projects, finding cost effective solutions to new technical challenges. We regularly collaborate and consult with teams that need photonics and optics engineering, design and manufacturing AIT expertise, from early stage path finding to industrial production. Collaborating closely to identify the key problems and opportunities while bringing our years of experience to the table from a multidisciplinary team.
