Reports To: Pharmacy Manager, Centralized Sterile Compounding Center (CSCC)

 

Position Overview

Come join the Henry Ford Health (HFH) corporate pharmacy team to create the future of pharmacy practice in Southeast Michigan.   We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented sterile compounding pharmacist to join our Centralized Sterile Compounding Center (CSCC) team. 

This role supports sterile compounding operations that serves the HFH enterprise.  The pharmacist will ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality compounding practices. The preferred candidate will have demonstrated experience with sterile compounding, total parenteral nutrition and associated regulations.   

 

Role Overview

As a Pharmacist, you will assume responsibility for day-to-day pharmacy services, ensuring the delivery of comprehensive, patient-centered care. You will work under the direction of administrative or clinical coordinators, providing supervision to supportive staff and contributing to the training of pharmacy interns and externs. Your role is critical in maintaining high standards of care and resolving operational challenges.

What You Will Do

  • Provide comprehensive, patient-oriented pharmacy services on your shift.
  • Exercise sound management and clinical judgment in decision-making.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving problems within your assigned area of practice.
  • Participate in training pharmacy interns and externs in various service areas.
  • Disseminate drug information effectively to all levels of health care personnel.
  • Collaborate with coordinators and staff to develop improved patient services.

 

Job duties:

  1. Oversight of sterile compounding activities and supervision of technical staff
  2. Prepares patient specific (TPN, IV chemotherapy) and batch sterile compounds 
  3. Performs final Compounded Sterile Products (CSP) visual inspection, verification, labeling, and storage
  4. Maintains all required documentation for cleanroom facilities and environment
  5. Maintains all required documentation for patient-specific and anticipatory batch sterile compounded products
  6. Communicates with pharmacy sites regarding patient specific orders or batch compounds.
  7. Responds to and triages product or delivery concerns
  8. Assists in the evaluation and deployment of new CSPs
  9. Collaborates with pharmacy staff to maintain accurate medication and supply inventory
  10. Ensures compliance with USP, state, federal and regulatory sterile compounding standards, and HFH policies and procedures pertaining to sterile compounding
  11. Partners with CSCC team members and leadership to identify and implement process improvements ¿ enhancing service, quality, and operational excellence
  12. Assists with preparation of the pharmacy for inspections including but not limited to, FDA, NABP, DEA, TJC, state boards of pharmacy
  13. Respond and triage telephone and electronic message inquiries
  14. Receive orders and prepare and package medications for delivery
  15. Performs pharmacy cleaning as needed
  16. Assist with training of staff and precepting as required
  17. Other duties and projects as assigned 
  18. Acts as operational leader as required

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan (must obtain within 30 days of hire if eligible).
  • Demonstrated acumen in verbal and written communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of pathophysiology and pharmacotherapy of disease states.
  • Ability to participate in teaching programs and provide instruction to students and health care providers.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in sterile compounding in an acute care, health system, home care, infusion center, or 503a/b setting
  • Total parenteral nutrition (TPN), automated IV compounding devices, and EPIC experience preferred
  • Knowledge of USP <797>, USP <800>, FDA regulations, and other applicable sterile compounding standards
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan. If eligible, licensure must be obtained within 30 days of hire; failure to obtain licensure will result in termination of employment 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Residency in hospital pharmacy.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of pathophysiology and pharmacotherapy of disease states
  • Ability to participate in teaching programs and instruct students and healthcare providers
  • At least 2 years of sterile compounding experience in acute care, health system, home care, infusion center, or 503A/503B setting
  • Experience with total parenteral nutrition, automated IV compounding devices, and EPIC
  • Knowledge of USP <797>, USP <800>, FDA regulations, and other applicable sterile compounding standards
  • Residency in hospital pharmacy
