Braun Intertec is seeking a Petrographer to join our Concrete Science Division in the Chicago Office. This individual will be working with a team of Scientist, Engineers and Technicians to solve materials related failures of structures. This role will be working alongside Principal Petrographers with more than 30 years of experience, providing great mentorship on a growing team.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct petrographic analysis on concrete, masonry, aggregate, mortar and stucco
- Assist in troubleshooting construction issues
- Prepare samples for analysis and testing
- Develop and execute project scopes to provide the required answers for our clients
- Work as part of a team on projects from multiple areas of the country.
Required Skills:
- Ability to interpret industry standard documents and follow laboratory methods
- Possess technical aptitude to solve technical issues where solutions are undefined in typical practice
- Ability to work with in a strong team environment
- Ability to exercise creative thinking to bring solutions to internal and external clients
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment
- Fluency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Good written communication skills
- Willing to travel (up to 10%)
- Understand the operation of petrographic equipment and microscope
Minimum Experience and Education:
- 5 or more years of experience conducting petrographic analysis
- Bachelor’s degree in geology
- Familiar with industry standard such as ACI or ASTM documents and committees
