Job Description

The Permanent Substitute Teacher provides consistent instructional and classroom support across assigned campuses. This role ensures continuity of learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher by delivering lesson plans, maintaining classroom structure, and supporting student achievement. 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Deliver instruction using provided lesson plans across subjects and grade levels

  • Maintain a safe, structured, and engaging classroom environment

  • Implement school-wide behavior systems and uphold campus expectations

  • Support student learning and monitor academic progress

  • Accurately take and submit daily attendance in a timely manner

  • Collaborate with school site leadership to grade student assignments and provide timely, meaningful feedback

  • Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding student progress, behavior, and classroom updates

  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure continuity of instruction

  • Perform campus supervision duties (arrival, lunch, dismissal, etc.)

  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development

  • Support testing, school events, and daily campus operations

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 60+ credited hours

  • Associates degree

  • Bachelor’s degree  (preferred, but not required)

  • Prior classroom or substitute teaching experience preferred

  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills

  • Ability to adapt quickly to different classrooms, subjects, and grade levels

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Classroom Management: Ability to establish and maintain a structured, respectful, and productive learning environment

  • Instructional Delivery: Skill in effectively implementing lesson plans across multiple subjects and grade levels

  • Adaptability: Adjust to different classrooms, student needs, and instructional styles

  • Communication: Clear and professional verbal and written communication with students, staff, and families

  • Organization and Time Management: Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, including attendance, grading, and transitions, in a timely manner

  • Collaboration: Works effectively with teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure continuity of instruction

  • Student Engagement: Ability to motivate and engage students in learning while maintaining high expectations

  • Problem-Solving: Demonstrates sound judgment and decision-making in classroom and student situations

  • Attention to Detail: Ensures accuracy in attendance, grading, and documentation

  • Professionalism: Maintains reliability, punctuality, confidentiality, and adherence to school policies and procedures

  • Technology Skills: Proficiency in using classroom technology, learning management systems, and student information systems

  • The candidate is expected to attend conferences, meetings and training sessions both virtually and in person within the Region. 

Additional Requirements:

  • Reliable transportation is needed for travel between campuses

  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.

  • Work with frequent interruptions.

Work Environment: 

Hybrid work - Reports to the central office or schools three days a week

Travel Requirements: 

Minimal travel: May travel to other school sites or regional offices for professional learning, meetings and other work related activities.
