Posititon Summary:

The Perinatal Nurse Coordinator is a member of the Maternal/Child Women's Service line who is to serve as the primary coordinator to the complex high risk maternal patient and her designated significant others assuring a positive patient experience by planning, implementation, and collaborating in a multidisciplinary environment the plan of care. In addition, the Perinatal Coordinator will collaborate with the Manager of Women's services to create and sustain a birth and family education programs to enhance the patient experience while maintaining the quality of care. 

What the Perinatal Nurse Coordinator will need:

Education

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing 
  • Preferred: Masters Degree in Nursing

Credentials/ Licensure

  • Minimum: Current State of Michigan Registered Nursing License. CPR or BCLS Certified.
  • Preferred: Certified Nurse in subspecialty

Related Experience

  • Minimum: Three years of experience in Perinatal, Obstetrical and/or Neonatal nursing. 
  •  Preferred: Experience inpatient, outpatient and family education. 

What the Perinatal Nurse Coordinator will do:

  • Participates/conducts multidisciplinary perinatal patient conferences for planning and coordination of services for identified high risk pregnancies through the community offices. 
  • Uses Evidence Based Practice to plan, implement and evaluate outcomes for identified high risk maternal patients and continues to advocate with mother through discharge process
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in performance improvement activities including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical outcomes and processes for the complex high risk maternal patient. 
  • Communicates the plan of care (perinatal and postnatal) with the patient, family and other health team members both verbally and in writing.
  • Monitors and modifies the plan of care through an interdisciplinary and collaborative process in conjunction with all parts of the health care team.
  • Serves effectively as a patient and family advocate. Promotes on-going team conferences for patients. Supports patient during difficult decision-making periods.
