Team Model: Hands‑on technical leader responsible for defining performance and scalability strategy while actively designing, executing, and embedding performance engineering practices across multiple cross‑functional engineering teams
Reports to: CTO / VP of Engineering
The Role:
We are seeking a Performance Engineering Lead to own and drive the performance, scalability, and reliability engineering strategy for our platform. This role sits within Engineering and works closely with architects, developers, SRE/DevOps and product teams to ensure our systems meet current and future performance demands.
Key Responsibilities
Performance Strategy & Leadership
- Define and maintain the performance engineering strategy, frameworks, and standards across the platform.
- Partner with architects and senior engineers to ensure performance and scalability requirements are captured early in the design process.
- Lead, mentor, and guide engineers on performance best practices, approaches, and tooling.
- Design and execute load, stress, endurance, and scalability tests across critical systems.
- Build, maintain, and evolve performance test scripts using industry‑standard tools.
- Conduct end‑to‑end performance analysis, identify bottlenecks, and recommend optimisations.
- Embed performance considerations throughout the SDLC, from design through to production.
- Integrate performance testing and checks into CI/CD pipelines.
- Work with engineering and SRE/DevOps teams to improve platform scalability, resilience, and reliability.
- Produce clear, actionable performance reports and dashboards.
- Communicate risks, findings, and recommendations to technical and non‑technical stakeholders, both internal and external to Datalex.
- Establish and maintain measurable performance benchmarks and service thresholds.
- 8+ years’ experience in performance engineering, including leadership or senior ownership responsibilities.
- Strong hands‑on experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, Gatling, or BlazeMeter.
- Solid understanding of microservices architectures, APIs, and cloud‑based infrastructures.
- Experience integrating performance testing into CI/CD pipelines and modern delivery workflows.
- Experience with APM and observability tooling such as Dynatrace, New Relic, or AppDynamics.
- Knowledge of performance modelling, capacity planning, and forecasting.
