Waymo's Systems Engineering team works together to blend software and hardware systems in groundbreaking new ways. We set the standards that ensure our vehicles run smoothly and keep passengers safe, then design and perform the tests that validate that performance. We're looking for teammates who’ll help us maintain teamwork.
This Hybrid role reports to Systems Engineering Manager
You will:
- Develop new strategies for testing the Waymo Driver’s object detection and classification software (“Perception”). Use internal tools to implement these tests.
- Work with systems engineers, onboard software engineers, and software infrastructure teams to create a shared, consistent approach for perception evaluation.
- Lead engagement with vendor engineering teams to improve and operationalize testing workflows. Ensure timely, high-quality output from these teams.
- Develop new software tools (and improve existing tools) used by other engineers for perception testing.
You have:
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field
- At least 8 years of experience in systems engineering, software development, or a related field
- Experience testing large, complex software systems
- Comfortability juggling multiple projects at once and thriving in ambiguity
- Experience with python
- Technical leadership with experience breaking down complex tasks and operationalizing them across a less experienced workforce
We prefer:
- Foundation in system engineering fundamentals such as requirements definition, formal verification and validation methods
- Experience testing safety-critical systems
- Experience with C++
- Experience developing or testing machine learning/computer vision/AI systems
- Experience with simulation-based testing
- Experience with autonomous vehicles or other autonomous systems
The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
