Building the machines that build everything.
The Role

Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era in micromanufacturing with its Matter Compiler (MC) technology. The MC enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by offering manufacturing processes and a materials library that is inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. The MC promises to unlock MEMS manufacturing both for the many device classes that never could be made by semiconductor methods but also to open up entirely new classes. Furthermore, the MC is fully digital in the way 3D printing is digital, but where 3D printing produces parts of a single material using a single process, the MC is a multi-process, multi-material technology: bits and raw materials go in and complete, functional micromachines come out.  The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device – one that was only made possible by the existence of the Matter Compiler – that we will be unveiling to the world soon.

Our offices are in Emeryville and Santa Clara, California.

About the role:
Atomic Machines is seeking a highly capable and strategic People Partner to own and drive the full scope of people practices across our rapidly growing hardware startup. In this role, you’ll partner closely with Atomizers, managers and ICs, across all functions—not just advising, but actively building, implementing, and iterating on the systems and programs that help every Atomizer do their best work, efficiently and effectively. From onboarding to training to performance management, you’ll collaborate with our small but mighty People team to create a cohesive, end-to-end employee experience. You’ll be deeply accountable for creating clarity, enabling growth, and scaling the habits that power execution across the company.

We’re not doing HR the traditional way, and you’ll love this role if you’re energized by reasoning from first principles and being pushed to deliver your highest caliber of work. If you’re all about growth and fanatic discipline, you’ll thrive amplifying the rigor of Atomic Machines—working shoulder to shoulder with one of the smartest and most capable teams you’ll ever meet. To succeed here, you must be exceptional at partnering with Atomizers at all levels and across all functions—ideating, iterating, creating, and driving the right practices for our unique environment. Our leadership here is by context, not command:  we are not interested in creating a complex web of detailed processes, but instead building the right tools and systems that enable accountable and well informed Atomizers to do their best work.

You’ll blend strategic thinking with operational execution to ensure our people infrastructure scales with each hire. You should be a power user of HR tools built for growing startups, have a healthy impatience for manual processes, and embrace AI to help us do more with less. You have a strong network of fellow People leaders to learn from, and you actively seek out the right tools, training, and research to bring timely, relevant solutions to our team.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build and run people programs across onboarding, leadership and management training, functional training, performance, and career development that drive clarity, capability, and execution at scale.
  • Partner deeply with Atomizers at all levels and across all functions to provide the right level of support, coaching, and structure.
  • Own and manage Atomizer relations with sound judgment, discretion, and a focus on early intervention and resolution
  • Continuously improve our processes using automation, AI, and scalable systems—eliminating inefficiencies and raising the bar for how we work
  • Own, drive and continuously improve performance management systems and processes that perpetuate our performance culture.  Ensure feedback cycles are well grounded in our company tenets and actually improve how we operate—not just check a box.
  • Own program data and reporting, using insights to drive iteration, alignment, and accountability.
  • Ensure compliance and mitigate risk, aligning our programs with legal requirements and our cultural expectations.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively across the company, ensuring the right people have the right information at the right time, without noise.
  • Bring in the right external partners to accelerate development when needed, and manage those relationships with intention and accountability.

What you’ll need:

  • A first-principles mindset — you question assumptions, reframe problems from the ground up, and approach challenges with a foundational understanding rather than relying solely on precedent. In short, you build what’s needed, not just what you’ve built before.
  • 8+ years of progressive HR/People Ops experience, including deep generalist skills and ownership of high-impact programs in a high-growth startup.
  • A finisher mentality. You get things over the finish line, every time.
  • Fluency with tools like Google Workspace, Lever, Justworks, and Lattice, and a strong track record of automating workflows and applying AI for efficiency.
  • Experience partnering with senior leaders and frontline teams alike—adapting your support to what each team truly needs to succeed from org development, compensation planning, performance management, obtaining and providing feedback from teams, talent upgrading. You will gude and empower our  managers to help their teams be more effective.
  • Experience writing effective creating playbooks and manuals that help managers lead their teams independently and perform at their best.
  • Proven success designing and scaling onboarding, performance, development, and compensation processes.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and collaboration skills; you can simplify the complex and drive aligned action across levels.
  • Strong analytical mindset with experience building and owning dashboards using data from HRIS, ATS, and performance systems to identify trends, measure effectiveness, and support better-informed decisions—keeping leadership and the broader company updated on the health of the organization.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, high standards, and constant change—you’re resilient, rigorous, and always leveling up your work.
  • A genuine love of people—you bring curiosity, energy, and joy to the role. You enjoy mingling, engaging, and learning what makes people tick. You push them, amplify them, and recognize that you do your best work in partnership with others.
  • Strong working knowledge of California employment laws is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

What We Do

Atomic Machines is redefining humanity’s relationship with matter. We see a future where our tools will allow us to reorganize matter at the atomic level at will, where we will go from bits to atoms for any object or machine that can be designed in alignment with physical laws. We have begun our journey with the development of a robotic manufacturing platform capable of making an entirely new class of micro-electromechanical (MEMS) devices. We are well funded and have exceptionally strong product/market fit and a clear go-to-market path for the device we will make first with our platform. Our platform breaks traditional manufacturing paradigms and constraints, enabling inexpensive rapid prototyping as well as large scale manufacturing with highly compelling economics.

Joining forces with us means becoming part of an incredibly talented, inventive and passionate multi-disciplinary team working on a massive world-changing mission. You will have the opportunity to help define the company from its early days. You’ll be challenged to learn and grow as a builder and a leader as the company itself grows rapidly. And you will receive significant equity compensation - you’ll truly be a company owner and benefit financially from our overall success.
