This is a hybrid role based in the Bay Area (three days per week at our office) and will report directly to the Lead People Operations Business Partner.

The Role
The People Operations Business Partner is responsible for the seamless administration and management of People Operations services for our dynamic team. This role will support the Lead People Operations Business Partner to deliver consistent Human Resources, Compliance, Employee Relations, Engagement, and Company Culture support to our growing team of over 230 employees. This role will also help improve the efficiency, continuity, and effectiveness of the communications, data management, and HRIS utilization within the company.
Having a background in Human Resources or People Management, as well as a passion for helping to develop medium-sized organizations makes this an exciting opportunity for anyone looking to grow in their career in People Operations. This is a hybrid role based out of the San Francisco Bay Area (California) with a 3 day per week in-person expectation.
Required Qualifications

  • HUMAN RESOURCES EXPERTISE:
    • Shows a basic level of understanding of employment laws and practices related to nonexempt employees; is aware of and regularly reviews reliable sources of information surrounding employment law
    • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees
    • Seeks guidance when addressing legal compliance issues.
    • Committed to obtaining either SHRM-CP, PHR (HRCI), or aPHR (HRCI) certification within the first year of employment
    • Exhibits a strong command of company policies and procedures


  • EMPLOYEE ADVOCATE:
    • Listens attentively to employees' concerns and issues; demonstrates empathy and understanding in interactions.
    • Recognizes common employee needs and concerns + begins to advocate for basic employee welfare and satisfaction.
    • Helps employees understand basic HR policies and procedures; provides initial guidance on policy interpretation.
    • Works collaboratively with People Operations team members to address employee issues.
    • Participates in team discussions to advocate for employee interests.
    • Communicates clearly and professionally with employees.
    • Conveys information regarding policies and benefits effectively.
    • Recognizes problems or potential issues before they escalate. Takes action based on training and guidance from managers.
    • Independently makes decisions while thoughtfully weighing the risks and rewards.


  • TOOLS + RESOURCES:
    • Regularly builds relationships with colleagues in IT, Finance, and other departments to access relevant data sources and collaborate on data-driven projects
    • Possesses a mindset of using data to inform People Ops decisions, including integrating data analysis into HR processes such as talent management and employee development to optimize outcomes and mitigate risks
    • Can identify key performance metrics and goals within their area of responsibility.


  • CHANGE ADVOCATE:
    • Possesses the awareness of the need for change at the individual or team level; whether it's due to internal inefficiencies or other factors.
    • Recognizes that new solutions will help to achieve individual and team goals.

    • Actively contributes & encourages all team members to contribute to discussions, projects, and decision-making processes
    • Ensures that work aligns with the common goals and objectives of the team or Crafty
    • Considered to be an effective listening partner by peers and leaders and is highly skilled at integrating points of view from different teams and types of people.
    • Recognizes when a critical conversation needs to be had and fields support from their manager to kickstart the process
    • Provides feedback that is specific, actionable, and aimed at helping team members improve their performance or contributions


  • TRAVEL FLEXIBILITY: Maintains the flexibility and willingness to travel to Crafty locations and other states (~10% travel annually). Monthly visits + shadowing within client spaces in San Francisco, as well as monthly visits to Crafty's Oakland Fulfillment Center required.


Desired Qualifications

  • PEOPLE TECH STACK: Strong command of software applications + HR tools, especially Rippling, Microsoft Excel, Google Suite, ZenDesk, Slack, and Notion


Expected Results:
Objective 1: Enhance the handling and closure of employee relations cases while ensuring legal compliance and timeliness.
Goal #1: By the end of Q2 2025, ensure that the number of case escalations is reduced by 20%.
Goal #2: Maximize the effectiveness of the employee relations vertical by training managers on common issues that could occur within their teams.

  • Key Initiative #1: Build relationships with People Managers and Team Members within Operations to ensure alignment on Company policy + procedures for handling workplace concerns through biweekly touchpoints + regular personnel check-ins with each department.
  • Key Initiative #2: By the end of your first 90 days at Crafty, you will be able to respond to inbound needs from team members within 1 business day; helping to ensure understanding and application of Company policy and People Ops programs and empowering our managers to find a solution and be innovative for their teams.


Objective 2: Ensure a high quality employee experience at all Crafty work locations.
Goal: Enhance team member experience in Crafty physical locations through effective administrative management and internal brand representation, as evidenced by team member satisfaction scores on monthly experience pulse surveys rolling out in Q4 2024.

  • Key Initiative #1: Create a monthly pulse survey to gauge employee satisfaction within Crafty physical spaces, focusing on flexibility, team engagement, and ability to collaborate within the space.
  • Key Initiative #2: Implement at least 6 improvements, driven by team member feedback, at Crafty physical locations + showcase changes at an upcoming All Hands meeting.


Objective 3: Achieve continuous compliance within Operations.
Goal: Ensure the Company reaches 80% total compliance by the end of 2024, as measured by our internal Compliance Checklist.

  • Key Initiative #1: Create a quarterly process for a safety audit checklist within our fulfillment center locations, with accompanying project plan and implementation plan.
  • Key Initiative #2: Work with Senior HRBP to audit processes within the nonexempt employee population for adherence to compliance.
  • Key initiative #3: Project manage at least 8 initiatives per quarter in the Compliance Checklist through partnership with leaders in the Operations Department.

The pay band for this position is $80,000 to $95,000 in California.
