The Peer Specialist will work in partnership with young adults turning 18 in licensed foster care settings and are eligible to participate in one of the RTI programs or service such as Extended Foster Care (EFC), Postsecondary Education Services and Supports (PESS), and Aftercare (AC). The Peer Specialist act as a point of contact, that has lived experience with foster care and participating in the Independent Living Services to provide a unique level of support to youth and young adults who are currently receiving or re-entering services by helping them to help with troubleshooting barriers in accessing IL programs, navigate and follow thru with specialized supports and services for their specific circumstances. This position will help connect community resources and personal services; to influence social media and professional networking; as well as co-facilitate Youth Empowerment council meetings and other support groups and youth advocacy activities. The Peer Specialist will also help the Youth Success Coaches, Facilitators, Specialists and Case Managers as needed and available.
Qualifications- Minimum: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Preferred: Associate or other accredited vocational degree, with a major in the field of counseling, social work, sociology, psychology, or a related social sciences and human services field
- Independent Living Service or Foster Care experience.
