JOB SUMMARY

The Pediatrician, located at Baltimore Juvenile Justice, Baltimore, MD  is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to incarcerated youth within the correctional facility. This role includes assessing, diagnosing, and managing a wide range of pediatric medical conditions while ensuring that care is delivered with compassion, clinical excellence, and in accordance with legal and regulatory standards. The Pediatrician plays a key role in promoting the health and well-being of juvenile patients and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare and custody staff.  20 hours a week

Responsibilities


  • Conduct routine and emergency pediatric medical evaluations
  • Diagnoses and manage acute and chronic illnesses in youth
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including labs, imaging, and other screenings.
  • Provide age-appropriate health education and counseling to patients.
  • Collaborate with mental health, nursing, dental, and other specialists to ensure continuity of care
  • Document all patient encounters in the electronic health record (EHR) system according to facility guidelines
  • Monitor growth and development milestones and address pediatric-specific health concerns
  • Ensure compliance with infection control procedures and public health protocols.
  • Participate in case reviews, quality assurance programs, and medical team meetings
  • Maintain awareness of relevant correctional policies and procedures and adapt clinical practice accordingly
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited medical school
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Pediatrics
  • Current, unrestricted medical license in the state of employment
  • DEA license and CPR/BLS certification required
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience practicing pediatrics; experience with underserved or at-risk youth populations preferred
  • Prior experience in a correctional, community health, or public health setting is desirable
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS


  • Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • On-call duty may be required (available to work on short notice)

  • Upholds HIPAA and PREA regulations
  • Punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts
  • Maintains security clearance for the assigned facility
