Job Summary

The Clinical Coordinator for Pediatric Inpatient and Emergency Services is a frontline leadership role responsible for supporting daily operations, patient flow, staffing coordination, and quality of care within the pediatric units and emergency department. This role serves as a clinical resource and operational leader, ensuring safe, efficient, and patient – and family-centered care delivery while partnering closely with nursing leadership, providers, and interdisciplinary teams.

  • Provides frontline clinical leadership and support to pediatric inpatient and emergency department staff
  • Coordinates daily operations including patient flow, bed placement, and throughput
  • Monitors unit census and acuity to support safe and effective staffing decisions
  • Serves as a resource for staff, assisting with clinical decision-making and escalation of patient care needs
  • Conducts clinical rounding to promote patient safety, quality care, and family-centered practices
  • Collaborates with physicians, respiratory therapy, child life specialists, ancillary departments, and the pediatric educator to ensure coordinated care and staff development
  • Supports quality improvement initiatives, audits, and compliance with documentation and practice standards
  • Partners closely with the pediatric educator to support onboarding, orientation, competency validation, and ongoing education initiatives
  • Responds to operational and clinical needs in real time, intervening as necessary to maintain safe care delivery
  • Promotes a positive, collaborative work environment that supports staff engagement and professional growth

Department Overview

The Pediatric Inpatient Units and Pediatric Emergency Department at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital Vanderbilt at Williamson Medical Center provide specialized, high-quality care to pediatric patients in both acute and emergency settings. These units are supported by a multidisciplinary team of highly trained pediatric nurses, a dedicated pediatric educator, providers, and support staff dedicated to delivering safe, efficient, and compassionate care. Leadership is committed to fostering a collaborative environment focused on patient safety, continuous improvement, and staff development.


Experience Level

  • Minimum of 2 years of pediatric nursing experience strongly preferred (inpatient and/or emergency)
  • Prior experience in a charge nurse, lead, or leadership support role strongly preferred

Position Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required

Courses offered through the hospital and required within 6 months of hire (if not current):

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

Exception - Required within 3 months of hire (if not current):

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
