IT STARTS HERE

Santander (www.santander.com) is evolving from a global, high-impact brand into a technology-driven organization, and our people are at the heart of this journey. Together, we are driving a customer-centric transformation that values bold thinking, innovation, and the courage to challenge what’s possible.

This is more than a strategic shift. It’s a chance for driven professionals to grow, learn, and make a real difference.

Our mission is to contribute to help more people and businesses prosper. We embrace a strong risk culture and all our professionals at all levels are expected to take a proactive and responsible approach toward risk management.

Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (Santander CIB) is Santander's global division that supports some of the world's most complex and sophisticated corporate and institutional clients, offering customized services and value-added wholesale products to best meet their needs.

THE DIFFERENCE YOU MAKE

Private Debt Mobilisation (PDM) is the department of Banco Santander Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) that is responsible for the distribution to investors of all private credit risk assets of CIB.  This includes underwriting transactions, managing the underwriting risk of the bank, and syndicating, distributing, and hedging those transactions.  This role is an Executive Director level role in the PDM Trade & Working Capital Solutions (TWCS) team, responsible for PDM activity for TWCS transactions.

The successful candidate will be expected to focus on Structured Trade, including Prepayment Financing, Pre-Export Financing, Inventory Financing, Borrowing Base Financing, Reserve Based Lending etc.  The successful candidate will be expected to execute transactions on an end-to-end basis, including the initial discussions with origination and/or the corporate client, appropriate structuring and documentation, defining and executing an underwriting and syndication strategy, and the final sales to investors.  In addition, on larger or more complex transactions, the successful candidate will be expected to work seamlessly and flexibly with other members of the PDM team – both more senior and more junior – in order to ensure best execution of the transaction.

Furthermore, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Global Head of PDM TWCS with various cross-product projects, within the trade asset class, but outside of structured trade.  This could include structured and portfolio solutions, new investor bases, new areas of origination, etc.  This part of the role will require an ability to think laterally and outside of the box, as well as to liaise with multiple stakeholders in order to ensure successful execution of these transactions and projects.

We need someone like you to help us with the following tasks:

  • Setting and defining the strategy of the structured trade PDM business globally.
  • Managing and progressing new distribution initiatives and projects across all trade asset classes.
  • End to end structuring, placement, and syndication of transactions with limited supervision
  • Working closing with other members of the team on large complex transactions to ensure smooth execution, including managing directly junior members of the deal team, and successfully managing “upwards” more senior members of the deal team.
  • Arranging and attending meetings with investors, and proactively developing reliable relationships with bank investors to become a strong presence in the market as a reliable and credible syndication/distribution professional
  • Reviewing documentation during the structuring and execution of transactions and liaising with internal and external counsel as appropriate
  • Preparing presentations and teasers for investors
  • Liaising with and developing strong relationships with internal counterparties in the TWCS business, Risk, Banking and Corporate Finance, Middle and Back Office and other functions
  • As part of a wider team, there will be opportunities in the future for exposure to other asset classes and geographies within TWCS.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

Our people are our greatest strength. Every individual contributes unique perspectives that make us stronger as a team and as an organization. We’re enabling teams to go beyond by valuing who they are and empowering what they bring.

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 8 years experience in the investment banking industry, to include relevant experience either in origination or distribution of TWCS assets or other strong, relevant experience, for example in an origination role related to TWCS assets.  It is likely that the successful candidate will have more than this minimum experience level.
  • Direct experience of Structured Trade (Prepayment financing, Pre-export financing, Inventory finance, Borrowing base financing and Trade loans).  This could come from a structuring/origination background, or from a syndication role at another bank.
  • Knowledge of the other Trade & Working Capital asset classes and structured trade’s position within the trade finance world.
  • You will have a continuing interest in, and rounded knowledge of, the financial world in general and the wider markets beyond the TWCS asset class, as well as the Corporate and Investment banking industry and Banco Santander’s place within it.
