The Product, Design, and Engineering (PDE) team is part of the Office of the CIO (OCIO) at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI). We work collaboratively with IT, business leaders, and technical staff to create enterprise-level business solutions that help the organization maintain and evolve technologies, business processes, and architectures to deliver a cohesive and integrated business platform that constantly improves our organizational performance. You will work with various technologies such as Python, JavaScript, and SQL. In this role, you will collaborate with the PDE team to develop either intranet based applications or the external SEI website.

Position SummaryAs an intern you'll collaborate with developers on our small-but-mighty team to work on a next-generation intranet critical to the SEI's needs. You will:
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code in Python
- Work with a modern tech stack including Docker, Microservices, Vue.js, and REST
- Participate in the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, and deployment
- Debug and troubleshoot software issues, identifying and fixing bugs
- Assist in developing unit tests and automated unit tests and end-to-end tests to ensure code quality
- Attend team meetings, contribute ideas, and provide feedback during design discussions
- Proficiency in Python
- Understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles
- Experience with git
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn quickly
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Eligibility to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
- Able to come on-site to the SEI Pittsburgh office
- Candidates will be subject to a background check
- Experience with FastAPI or Django
- Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks, e.g. React, Vue.js
- Knowledge of relational databases, e.g. SQL Server or PostgreSQL
- Familiarity with testing frameworks, e.g. JUnit, Pytest
- Familiarity with end-to-end testing tools, e.g. Selenium, cypress
- Basic understanding of agile development methodologies
Position will be based in Pittsburgh, in office 5 days a week.
