The Role
Fisher & Paykel is an iconic New Zealand brand, a global company with a strong local heritage. Our origins inspire our culture of curiosity and passion to develop solutions designed around people - these are some of the core elements that make us unique.
We are driven by our values of being trusted, sustainably minded, innovative, generous, and curious. As a team we take a collaborative approach and have a working environment where all ideas are heard, evaluated, and tested against our leading goal - to be the world's most human-centred appliance brand.
The Opportunity
As a Product Safety and Compliance Engineer, you will be influential at the frontend of the product development process along with the rest of the PD team ensuring our products are inherently safe and comply with the required safety standards and other regulatory requirements, and therefore enabling them to be sold within a variety of global markets.
Developing and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of appliance regulatory requirements will be key, along with coordinating testing with internal and external test laboratories for a range of appliances. At times you will be expected to lead the internal testing by doing this testing yourself.
In addition, you'll also find yourself liaising, training, and supporting product development and third-party manufacturers and suppliers, as well as being the conduit between these groups and the regulatory authorities and test laboratories.
This is where you come in
You are the kind of person who inherently understands that safety is critical and you know the importance of complying with regulatory safety requirements. You get personal satisfaction from knowing that what you do adds value and ensures our products can be sold in the market within agreed timeframes.
You love nothing more than seeing projects and tasks through to the end without compromising either your own personal standards or those we must meet. Put simply, you get things done and you get them done right. You the person who dots the is and crosses the ts and ensuring process is followed and documentation is completed.
It is essential that you demonstrate natural organisation, attention to detail and can find a way forward - you don't have a 'too hard basket'. Your written and verbal communication skills are second to none as are your excellent reading comprehension skills. You'll understand what the "important work" is and know how to facilitate this to achieve results.
You will have an unrivalled ability to interpret a variety of safety and other regulatory requirements. Knowledge of electrical and gas testing of products or environmental compliance would be an advantage. Ideally, you’ll have a degree in either electrical, mechanical engineering, mechatronics or science, and you have been honing your skills for a minimum of three years
What we offer
We offer the opportunity to join a large, complex global organisation that is proudly headquartered in New Zealand; giving you broad exposure across an internationally operating business without leaving home.
Alongside a competitive salary, you'll have access to real development pathways and meaningful progression opportunities. As part of our team, you'll also enjoy generous discounts on Fisher & Paykel and Haier products, life and disability insurance, subsidised medical cover, access to our industry-leading Whānau/Family leave policy, a subsidised on-site café, and complimentary parking when you're in the office.
All of this, supported by exceptional leadership and the credibility of a world-class heritage brand — one that continues to be recognised as one of New Zealand's most Trusted Brands, year after year.
