The Union Payroll Supervisor is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, as well as compliance with applicable payroll laws, tax requirements, and legal filings. This hands-on role oversees payroll processing and related procedures across multiple locations. The position prepares payroll files for agency payments related to garnishments and collections, processes payroll data, including earnings, taxes, deductions, and adjustments, and manages payroll procedures. The Payroll Supervisor also ensures terminal employees in the conventional, cruise, and container divisions are paid promptly in accordance with union contracts and approved exceptions.
- Perform day-to-day payroll preparation and processing.
- Review payroll records and reports, and resolve issues before preparing weekend, month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reports.
- Prioritize, review, and approve all billable payroll before submission to the billing departments.
- Ensure payroll staff research and resolve shortage claims from terminals, union associations, or payees.
- Maintain accurate interfaces between ILA dispatching systems and the time and labor system.
- Maintains accurate CBAs' pay rates in the time and labor database and the payroll system.
- Help monitor workloads to ensure payroll transactions are processed accurately and on time.
- Reconcile payroll before transmission and verify confirmed reports.
- Support team members in developing the skills and performance capabilities needed to meet business and individual development goals.
- Train team members in new or updated operating procedures and policies.
- Approve and release the manual off-cycle check payments.
- Ensure compliance with unclaimed payroll property checks.
- Prepare accurate and timely year-end reporting, including W-2 and W-2c forms, as needed.
- Act as the main point of contact with HRIS vendors for union payroll.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Associate’s degree preferred.
- 4-6 years of experience in processing high-volume complex payrolls, preferred.
- Experience with ILA CBAs and ILA payroll (union payroll processes).
- Must be able to work under weekly deadline pressures, quarter-end, and year-end activities related to payroll accounting.
- Working knowledge of WFM Timekeeping, ADP-EV6.
- Experience with Dayforce payroll system implementation is a plus.
- Working knowledge of payroll best practices.
- Strong PC skills, including proficiency in Excel.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations.
- Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material

$68,000-90,000 per year
