JOB SUMMARY: Supervisor for the payroll department. Lead payroll operations, ensure accuracy across all pay cycles, and maintain full compliance with local, state, and federal labor laws. Role oversees the day-to-day work of the payroll team, manages complex payroll processing, resolves escalation issues, and drives ongoing improvements to our payroll software and workflows.

- Responsible for backing up the payables clerk on a daily basis. Required to know all task listed on the payroll clerk’s job description.
- Supervise and review the end-to-end processing of multi-state for 6000 + employees
- Ensure strict adherence to federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws (including FLSA rules, tax withholdings, and garnishments). Lead internal and external payroll audits.
- Oversee quarter-end and year-end processes, including tax filings, balance reconciliations, and the distribution of W-2s/1099s. Prepare regular payroll variance and financial report analysis for leadership.
- Research vendor and payroll records on an as needed basis in report binders, storage boxes, or on microfilm.
- Act as the main escalation point for complex payroll inquiries, discrepancies, tax issues, and benefit/deduction adjustments.
- Collaborate with IT, Accounting, and HR to streamline payroll workflows, automate routine tasks, and optimize system configuration.
- Assist with special payroll projects
- Answer phone calls pertaining to payroll
- Assist in assigning projects, supervising and delegating daily work, and assist with special administrative projects.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent working experience) preferred
- 4+ years of full-cycle payroll processing experience, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Proficiency in modern HRIS/payroll and advanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables).
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is highly preferred
- Deep understanding of multi-state tax withholding, garnishments, FLSA overtime regulations, and payroll tax compliance.
- Exceptional attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a high degree of discretion handling confidential employee information.
