The Role

ClassDojo's goal is to give every child on Earth an education they love.

We started by building a powerful network for communication. ClassDojo’s flagship app is the #1 communication app connecting K-8 teachers, children, and families globally. Teachers use it to share what’s happening throughout the day through photos, videos, and messages that make parents feel like they’re there. It’s actively used in over 95% of US schools, reaching over 50 million children in 180 countries, with a team of just around 200 people [1]. We are now beginning to use this network to give kids the best learning experiences in the world, far beyond those a standard school can provide.

We hire for talent density. Our team comprises the most talented, entrepreneurial, and innovative teammates from around the world, with experience in education and large scale consumer internet companies, including Instagram, Netflix, Dropbox, Stripe, Uber, Y Combinator, and more. We’re building a company where the most talented people want to work. We believe you’ll do the best work of your life here—and you’ll pioneer the future of education, too.

What you’ll do:

Payroll Administration

  • Oversee global payroll, including semi-monthly payroll for US and Canada FTEs, bi-weekly pay for contractors, and payroll for international team members

  • Partner closely with the People Team to ensure all employee changes are implemented accurately and efficiently; respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees in a timely and professional manner
  • Manage the relationship with third party payroll/HRIS provider and consistently strive for ways  to improve the payroll process and drive system automation
  • Support ad hoc projects including financial statement audit, 401(k) audit, workers comp audit, insurance renewals, etc. Perform other duties and ad hoc requests as needed

Equity Administration

  • Manage processing of equity transactions including option exercises and proper tax withholding
  • Collaborate with the People and Legal teams on maintaining accuracy of quarterly equity grant schedules and ensuring ongoing compliance with all regulatory requirements and disclosures
  • Host equity trainings and office hours for employees on an as needed basis
  • Take a leadership role in company-wide strategic initiatives such as fundraising events, tender offers, M&A, or changes in equity compensation (e.g. change in grant type or new features)

You will be a match if:

  • 7+ years of experience, including 3+ years leading payroll function and a high-growth company
  • 3+ years experience with equity administration and passion for taking on more responsibilities in this area
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field of study
  • Subject matter expert in payroll-related items including legislation, regulations, payroll taxes, earnings codes, deductions, and withholdings
  • Strong experience with payroll accounting, including month-end journal entries and reconciliations and troubleshooting reconciling items when they arrive
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and relationship building skills
  • Proven track record of scaling the payroll function through implementation of new payroll systems and/or significant process improvement
  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strategic thinker who is able to make and articulate data-driven decisions, such as when to hire additional resources or to implement new systems and processes to build for scale

Nice to have:

  • Experience with NetSuite and/or Rippling
