THE ROLEThis position provides comprehensive support related to payroll reporting and processing for the day-to-day operations within the Payroll Department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESThe Payroll Specialist will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Working with consultants and employees to ensure all time, pay rates, tax jurisdictions, deductions, and earnings, are entered into Nordic’s system in an accurate and timely fashion
- Reconciling payroll reports and reviewing deductions and earnings to ensure accuracy
- Analyzing and resolving any problems or inconsistences with time or pay in a timely, resourceful, and professional manner
- Registering for new tax jurisdictions
- Maintaining tax reconciliation logs
- Ensuring new employee data is entered correctly and in a timely manner into the payroll system
- Maintaining accurate tax rates for all jurisdictions to ensure these are being processed correctly
- Answering employment verification requests, processing unemployment and garnishment answers
- Communicating with employees, answering questions regarding their paychecks
- Handling all confidential information regarding company operations, candidate, consultant, and client information appropriately
- Working on projects that may be assigned on an ad hoc basis and may assist other corporate initiatives as necessary, directed, assigned, or requested
- Associate’s degree or equivalent experience, preferred
- 2+ years of experience working in a customer service or position requiring outside party interactions
- Proficient with basic math and financial calculations
- Demonstrated, effective written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail
- Competent keyboard skills and knowledge of MS Office Suite
- Must be able to work independently as well as within a team environment
- Occasional travel up to 5% of the time
