Overview

The Payroll Specialist III is responsible for assisting the Payroll department in the daily operations of our multistate payroll processes and providing support to all areas of the payroll function. They maintain compliance with local legislation across all payrolls and the end-to-end delivery of all payrolls in an accurate and timely manner.

Responsibilities
  • Uses payroll software, inputs payroll data, and prepares payroll checks.
  • Processes irregular payments such as bonuses.
  • Answers employee questions related to payroll and resolves issues.
  • May maintain vacation and personal time records.
  • Helps to ensure payroll practices meet government compliance.
  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
  • Performs work under minimal supervision.
  • Handles complex issues and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Possesses expert knowledge of the subject matter.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group.
  • May act as a lead or first-level supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
QualificationsRequired Education, Experience, and Qualifications
  • 5+ years of related experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Mathematical skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Well-versed in the industry and the Company's competitors.
  • Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Proficient with payroll software, experience with JD Edwards.
Travel Requirements
  • 0-5% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.
Physical/Work Environment Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Climbing stairs.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often kneeling, standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Quiet environment.
  • Light work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects up to 20 pounds.

Pay RangeUSD $24.28 - USD $32.44 /Hr.
