The Role

About the role:

As the Payroll Manager you will be responsible for leading and developing a small payroll team and driving continuous process and system improvement initiatives across the payroll function.

It will see you managing the end-to-end processing of the ANZ payroll (approx. 500 staff), adhering to defined employment agreements, enterprise bargaining agreements and statutory requirements and providing an exceptional level of customer service.


A Day in the Life:

Whilst there’s no typical day in the dynamic world of media, you can expect your role to involve the following:

  • Process/supervise fortnightly, monthly and ad-hoc payrolls in accordance with legislation and across a multi-site and multi-agreement/award environment
  • Manage all statutory requirements such as STP, PAYG, Superannuation, Payroll Tax, Workers Compensation, PAYE and Kiwi Super
  • Manage all month and year end reconciliation, journals, reporting and statutory returns required
  • Assist team to document all key payroll related procedures with periodic reviews to ensure regulatory requirements are maintained
  • Perform data analysis and report payroll information to People and Culture, Finance and Executives
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, assisting as necessary and providing required information
  • Coach and develop Senior Payroll Officer & Payroll Officer

About You:

You’ll be someone who has demonstrated experience within a full function payroll position, processing payroll for both salaried and waged employees. Someone who is used to and enjoys working in a small team environment. As well as:

  • Experience managing a small payroll department, directly supervising, coaching and mentoring staff
  • Significant experience with modern payroll and T&A systems
  • Advanced working knowledge of Chris21 or iChris desirable
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with line managers and employees at all levels
  • Advanced Microsoft Office – Excel
  • Excellent knowledge of payroll best-practice and current legislative requirements, including (but not limited to) superannuation and Kiwi super schemes, PAYG, PAYE and payroll tax legislation, and general pay rules
