Position Title: Payroll Manager
Location: Durham, NC (Hybrid)
Job Summary:
The Payroll Manager is based at Bell and Howell’s Durham, NC HQ office, with operations throughout the U.S. and Canada, and reports directly to the Manager, Total Rewards. This position delivers end to end payroll and HR/Benefits through Workday and ADP. The Payroll Manager is responsible for the accurate preparation, documentation, distribution of payroll, payroll taxes, and garnishment processing. Other responsibilities include working closely with the Benefits Team for related deductions and Finance for the reconciliation of the payroll accounting. The Payroll Manager communicates with all employees at every level. This position cross-trains other team members for assistance with payroll tasks or other projects as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinates and administers all US payroll functions.
- Responsible for the registration and maintenance of all accounts with payroll taxing authorities, including the update of tax rates in both systems.
- Maintains all processing deadlines and ensures timeliness and accuracy in data entry. This includes recommending and developing process improvements, and prevention of errors.
- Performs special calculations, works with the finance and accounting teams, and researches issues related to the reconciliation of the corporate bank account.
- Audits all work flows, processes, records, and documents regularly to ensure proper controls.
- Ensures accurate payroll data for paychecks, tax filing, reporting, and accounting.
- Reviews the computation of pay and ensures the company payroll policies are in accordance with government regulations.
- Handles payroll inquiries, performs analysis for potential corrections, provides resolutions as needed, with strong focus on problem prevention whenever possible.
- Creates self-bill invoices and ensures monthly invoices are processed.
- Assists in the development of human resources strategies, practices, processes, and programs to support the organization’s business goals and company culture.
- Provides subject-matter expertise on processes, procedures, policies, and system implementations.
- Leads or assists with special tasks or projects as needed.
- Maintains a high level of cofidentiality with Company and employee information.

Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Abilities):
- Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions along with considering alternative and diverse perspectives.
- Strong knowledge of all applicable federal, state, local laws, and regulations related to payroll.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, quantitative, organizational, and time management skills.
- Knowledge and experience with U.S. State and Federal payroll requirements, along with cross border payroll experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to understand, remember and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work as an integral part of a team.
Education and Experience:
- Associate degree or Certificate in human resources, payroll, or business administration with 2+ years of Payroll and HR Administrator experience or equivalent years of Payroll/HR experience required.
- Experience using software programs related to HR and payroll strongly preferred.
Travel:
- This position does not require travel.

- Ability to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
- Ability to type on a keyboard.
- Ability to use hands, wrists, fingering, handling, grasping, and reaching in using telephones, computers, and other office equipment and supplies.
- Ability to hear and talk.
- Ability to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
- Requires close vision for computer work and reviewing correspondence.
