Payroll Lead

Job Description:

The Payroll Lead is primarily responsible for coordinating payroll processing operations and monitoring workflow. Providing leadership, training and direction to payroll administrators. Supervising payroll team members and ensuring timely completion of payroll deadlines. Assisting the Payroll Manager in researching and resolving payroll tax exceptions, quarter and year end reporting and ensuring compliance with government regulations.

THE ESSENTIALS:

• Compiles and processes payroll data such as timesheets, additional pay requests, garnishments, direct deposit, and tax withholding changes to ensure accurate payment to employees.
• Reviews and balances weekly time files and computes and corrects errors to ensure the accuracy of wages computed.
• Prepares periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions.
• Research and resolve payroll-related questions and issues.
• Process terminations in accordance with state regulations; Prepares and issues payments for missing and termination pay.
• Research and resolve payroll tax-related questions and issues
• Assists in payroll audits
• Processing Quarterly Bureau of Labor Statistics - Multistate Worksheet

SCOPE:

• Follows standardized processes and procedures to complete most responsibilities; may be depended on to weigh alternatives and choose the best solution or course of action.
• Utilizes information that is typically straight-forward and readily available; may be asked to perform further research (independently or under general supervision) and/or complete light analysis.
• Works independently, taking initiative, making decisions, and solving problems without needing constant guidance or direction from a supervisor. 
• May coordinate tasks of others in similar roles or coordinate across functional areas, departments, or with vendors.
• Works with supervisor to determine short-term priorities; primary goals directly align to and support department’s short-term objectives.

CREDENTIALS:

• Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with Workday and ADP Smart Compliance is preferred
• Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax regulations.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
