Role: 
 
Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor, the Payroll Assistant is responsible for assisting with the administration of payroll for approximately 400 employees. The incumbent posts entries, audits and reconciles various payroll reports. This position provides support to all functions of the payroll department. Organizational / internal relationships include Management, Office Staff, Plant Managers, Supervisors, and Plant Staff. 

Responsibilities

  • Run payroll bi-weekly for plant or salaried employees as directed by the Payroll Supervisor.
  • Record and review time and attendance adjustments for hourly paid employees on a daily basis.  ensuring integrity and accuracy of information.
  • Preparing request forms such as retro adjustments, vacation money withdrawal, ROE requests, boot allowance and medical note etc., for reimbursement.
  • Manage and update employee records, including base rate progression, changes in address, phone numbers, banking information, payroll deductions, garnishments, permanent department transfers, and schedules in both the Dayforce and AS400 systems.
  • Monitor absenteeism and review “No Show” report daily. Record absentees and prepare required reports.
  • Monitoring and recording the daily transfer of employees to other departments in preparation for rate changes.
  • Assist in onboarding new employees. Ensure that forms are completed accurately before entering the information into both Dayforce and AS400.
  • Prepare and submit the benefits package for eligible employees. Ensure that Canada Life, Green Shield Canada, RRSP enrollment forms, and Blue Cross files are up to date.
  • Creating and monitoring access cards for new employees, visitors and contractors.
  • Monitor and track on a weekly basis employee vacation time
  • Providing Time Loss & Wages information in WCB, MPI Employers Verification of Earnings, STD claim to insurance company for illness or injury.
  • Other payroll and benefits administration as assigned by Payroll Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with Ceridian – Dayforce is an asset.
  • Basic accounting knowledge.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze problems and communicate effectively both verbal and written.
  • Very good interpersonal skills and an ability to treat all staff professionally and have an aptitude for dealing with various individuals.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, tact, diplomacy and good judgment in dealing with difficult situations and people.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities, adhere to deadlines and work well with others in accomplishing objectives.
  • Good working knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft products is important.
  • Secondary school graduation plus the completion of courses in accounting and payroll.
  • Completion of courses in payroll administration is an asset.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in a similar payroll role working in a unionized organization preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Please note that the expected new hire salary range provided is derived from a group of like roles within Sunrise Farms. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on geographical region, applicable experience, and skillset of the candidate.
