Payroll and Compliance Specialist
Location: Tempe, AZ | In-Office
A well-established construction and steel fabrication company, is seeking a Payroll & HR Coordinator to support operations across their two affiliated businesses. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented role designed for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to grow their skills in payroll, compliance, and HR administration.
This position works closely with the CFO, providing support on payroll, benefits administration, employee onboarding / offboarding, and various compliance reporting functions. You’ll play a key part in ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across both companies.
Key Responsibilities
- Payroll & Benefits
- Process weekly payrolls for both the General Contracting & Steel Fabrication company
- Manage employee onboarding and terminations
- Administer 401(k) contributions and ensure accurate recordkeeping
- Oversee group insurance enrollments, changes, and terminations
- Coordinate open enrollment and employee communications
- Maintain accurate employee records and ensure confidentiality
- Compliance & Reporting
- Assist with weekly, quarterly, and annual payroll reporting
- Help prepare documentation for audits and insurance renewals
- Maintain all corporate licensing for both companies, including:
- State, County, and City-level business licenses
- Contractor licenses and renewals
- Annual reports and compliance filings
- Withholding and unemployment account maintenance
- Administrative Support
- Maintain organized and secure employee files for both companies
- Support employee-related activities and communications
- Provide assistance with various administrative and accounting tasks as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in payroll, HR, or accounting support
- Experience in the construction industry preferred
- Knowledge of multi-state payroll and benefits administration a plus
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality
- Eagerness to learn and grow into broader accounting and HR responsibilities
