Job Duties/Essential Functions
- Job Duties
- Prepares and/or assists in daily bank deposits.
- Balances cash drawer and vault.
- Prepares change orders.
- Processes employee discounts and misc items:ie- movie tickets.
- Posts self pay receipts and hospital or professional insurance payments both manual and electronic.
- Applies insurance coverage to patient accounts.
- Researches missing payments.
- Resolves variances between deposit totals and journal totals.
- Works with reconciliation specialists to validate all daily deposits and posting totals.
- Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Operates the ten-key calculator with accuracy.
- Maintains knowledge and compliance with all patient account policies and procedures
- Follows through on all requests, promises and is "present" in all communications
- Proficiency with computer software application preferred (i.e., Microsoft Office programs).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Great attention to detail
- Operate office equipment.
Professional Experience
- Required:
- Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance billing, Commercial EOB, Medicare and Medicaid remits.
- Preferred:
- Six months health care industry.
- Six months banking experience.
- One year previous experience interacting with patients and customers.

- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
