This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by providing accurate and timely posting of self-pay and insurance receipts to guarantor accounts.

Job Description

Job Duties/Essential Functions

  • Job Duties
    • Prepares and/or assists in daily bank deposits.
    • Balances cash drawer and vault.
    • Prepares change orders.
    • Processes employee discounts and misc items:ie- movie tickets.
    • Posts self pay receipts and hospital or professional insurance payments both manual and electronic.
    • Applies insurance coverage to patient accounts.
    • Researches missing payments.
    • Resolves variances between deposit totals and journal totals.
    • Works with reconciliation specialists to validate all daily deposits and posting totals.
  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Operates the ten-key calculator with accuracy.
  • Maintains knowledge and compliance with all patient account policies and procedures
  • Follows through on all requests, promises and is "present" in all communications
  • Proficiency with computer software application preferred (i.e., Microsoft Office programs).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Great attention to detail
  • Operate office equipment.

Professional Experience

  • Required:
    • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance billing, Commercial EOB, Medicare and Medicaid remits.
  • Preferred:
    • Six months health care industry.
    • Six months banking experience.
    • One year previous experience interacting with patients and customers.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
