The Leidos Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC) has an opening for a Payload Systems Engineer in Houston, Texas at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC).
The Research Operations and Integration (ROI) Hardware Payload Systems Engineer (PSE) supports International Space Station (ISS) human research science operations at JSC/NASA Mission Control. Hardware PSE responsibilities include being a subject matter expert on medical and standalone hardware used during human science research experiments conducted on the ISS at Mission Control. Medical hardware includes such devices as the centrifuge, the ultrasound and actigraphy, as well as experiment-unique hardware, supported by the Operations Team from Mission Control.
The PSE also conducts pre-flight software testing and verification activities, writes documentation, and implements the systems level engineering elements needed to support Research Operations and Integration (ROI) in-flight experiment operations. Hardware PSEs also assist in the preparation for crew training activities and train the crew on Human Research Facility hardware. As a member of the ground control team on console, the Hardware PSE is responsible for monitoring the health and status of all active onboard medical hardware and software and any anomaly resolution required.
Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance; due to contract requirements, U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency are required.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Sits console in support of Human Life Sciences on-orbit operations and operations using HRP hardware.
- Prepares hardware for crew and ground control training and simulations.
- Develops hardware and software operating procedures and processes.
- Engineering SME for in-mission operations and anomaly resolution for sub-rack and experiment hardware and software
- Creates, maintains, and publishes Hardware Operations Documents per assigned deployed hardware items and SME assignments.
- Reviews Change Requests (CRs) and assesses them for impacts to the Hardware and Data Ops products and/or documents.
- Trains Ground Support Personnel and crewmembers on sub-rack hardware.
- Performs software testing and verification.
- Serves as liaison to science, hardware, software and flight analog teams.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or closely related field, and 0-2 years of relevant experience
- Previous experience working with biomedical hardware, solving complex problems, and working to develop solutions quickly
- Demonstrated technical competence in engineering and computing
- Effective communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills
- Ability to perform in highly visible and stressful situations
- Must be reliable, adaptable, and capable of working in a team environment
- Must be able to work various shifts
Preferred Additional Qualifications :
- Prior experience at NASA
- Data networking knowledge (encryption, network security, wireless access points, routers, firewalls, switches)
- Knowledge concerning remote access protocols

Pay Range:Pay Range $55,250.00 - $99,875.00
