We’re looking for a Paving Supervisor to join our Surfacing team in Auckland. You’ll lead paving crews, coordinate plant and materials, and deliver safe, high-quality asphalt surfacing works, helping us deliver safer roads and strong outcomes for our clients and communities.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

In this role, you’ll lead paving crews, plant, materials, and daily site activity to deliver asphalt surfacing works safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. You’ll work closely with the Surfacing Operations Manager and wider team to plan well, keep production on track, and get the job done right the first time. This is a hands-on role for someone who knows paving, backs their people, and leads well under pressure. If you enjoy leading good people, solving problems, and delivering quality outcomes, you’ll fit right in.
 

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate paving crews to deliver work safely, efficiently, and in line with programme requirements.

  • Allocate labour, plant, materials, and support vehicles to meet daily production targets and make the best use of resources.

  • Oversee day-to-day paving operations including screed setup, paving depths, joints, levels, asphalt delivery, placement, temperature control, and compaction.

  • Monitor site conditions, asphalt supply, and finished surfaces, taking timely action where quality or compliance issues arise.

  • Ensure all work meets safety, environmental, contract, and quality requirements.

  • Promote a strong safety culture, including reinforcing company procedures and traffic management requirements.

  • Work closely with surfacing managers, engineers, planners, asphalt plant teams, traffic management, and subcontractors to keep work moving.

  • Maintain accurate records covering progress, material use, plant usage, maintenance, and daily quality and production documentation.

  • Proven experience supervising paving or asphalt surfacing crews in the New Zealand roading environment.

  • At least 3–5 years’ experience in paving or asphalt surfacing operations.

  • Strong knowledge of asphalt paving methods, materials, plant, and equipment.

  • Experience delivering work on live road networks and working safely in high-traffic environments.

  • Familiarity with NZTA, Auckland Transport, or equivalent client specifications and quality standards.

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, support, and get the best out of a team.

  • Good planning, organisation, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think ahead and keep things moving.

  • Relevant licences and endorsements such as Class 1, 2, 4, 5, WTR, and Dangerous Goods, or the ability to obtain them, depending on the project and region.
