We are looking for an experienced Pavement Engineer to play a key frontline role delivering high‑quality work on the HDC Rural Maintenance contract. You’ll inspect, plan and programme work to ensure contracts are delivered safely, on time, to specification and within budget. On a day‑to‑day basis, you’ll set up sites, coordinate resources, manage quality control and field testing, and translate contract documents into clear, practical work instructions for crews.
In addition to the above you will:
Inspect, plan and programme work to ensure successful delivery and retention of pavement‑related contracts
Manage site set‑up, quality control, field testing and resources, turning contract documentation into clear crew instructions
Support the Operations Manager with engineering tasks, financial forecasting, month‑end reporting and contractual issues
Maintain compliance with specifications, standards and quality systems, including documentation, defect reporting and archives
Build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, suppliers and internal teams while contributing to continuous improvement and additional duties as needed

We’re looking for someone with:
Degree or Diploma of Civil Engineering or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution
Proven experience in pavement, civil or roading engineering in a contracting or maintenance environment
Strong planning, programming and site management skills, including resource allocation and coordination
Ability to interpret contract documentation into clear work instructions and ensure compliance with specifications and standards
Experience with quality control, field testing, QA documentation and managing non-conforming work or materials
Sound financial and reporting skills, including forecasting expenditure and contributing to month end/project reporting
Effective communication and relationship building skills with clients, stakeholders, suppliers and internal teams
Experience leading staff/crews and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
