Description

The Pastor is responsible for providing spiritual leadership and pastoral care within the Christ House and Kairos programs. This role supports patients, Kairos members, staff, and volunteers by fostering an environment that promotes dignity, respect, and holistic well-being.

The Pastor plans and leads ecumenical Sunday worship services, develops and facilitates spiritual formation programming, and provides direct pastoral care to individuals experiencing chronic illness, housing instability, and substance use recovery. This position plays a key role in integrating spiritual support into a multidisciplinary care model and works closely with program and clinical staff to ensure coordinated, person-centered services.

In addition, the Pastor supports staff through pastoral presence, supervises long-term volunteers as needed, and contributes to the ongoing development and implementation of programming that aligns with organizational goals and values.

Essential Functions: 


  1. Demonstrate commitment to the mission, values, dignity, and confidentiality standards of the organization through professional and respectful interactions with patients, Kairos members, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
  2. Plan, coordinate, and lead an ecumenical and inclusive weekly Sunday morning Christian worship service for patients, staff, Kairos members, residential community members, and external guests.
  3. Provide pastoral care to patients, including welcoming new admissions and offering ongoing emotional and spiritual support.
  4. Develop, implement, and maintain the School of Christian Living curriculum, including designing and facilitating classes and group meetings on topics such as scripture, spirituality, and mindfulness.
  5. Collaborate with Kairos program staff to implement program components and monitor participant engagement and progress.
  6. Partner with the Addictions Counselor to develop and support programming that integrates spirituality and recovery for Kairos members.
  7. Provide pastoral support and consultation to staff as appropriate.
  8. Supervise and support long-term volunteers as needed, including providing guidance, feedback, and coordination of responsibilities.
  9. Plan and facilitate reflective and community-building activities, including fellowship meals, retreats, and prayer services.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

  • Master’s in Divinity, Pastoral Counseling, Theology, or related field required

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in pastoral ministry, chaplaincy, spiritual direction, or pastoral counseling, preferably within healthcare, residential, or community-based settings.
  • Experience planning and leading ecumenical worship services, including working with a lectionary and preaching to diverse populations.
  • Ability to provide compassionate pastoral care to individuals experiencing complex challenges, including homelessness, chronic illness, mental health concerns, and/or substance use recovery.
  • Experience working effectively with individuals from diverse faith traditions, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences, with a strong commitment to inclusivity and respect.
  • Background in developing and facilitating educational or spiritual formation programming (e.g., Bible studies, faith-based classes, mindfulness or reflective practices).
  • Experience collaborating on interdisciplinary teams and coordinating with clinical or program staff to support holistic care.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage program elements, track participation or requirements, and adapt programming to meet evolving community needs.

License:

  • Board Certified Chaplain or Ordained Minister preferred
  • Spiritual Direction Certificate or Pastoral Counseling License a plus
