Responsibilities for Vocational Elder:  The nature of pastoral ministry makes it impossible to limit the work to regular, set hours. However, in general, pastoral staff should be in the office four days per week from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Pastoral staff may have many meetings and visitations outside of the office during those hours, but apart from such meetings, pastoral staff should work at the church facilities as much as possible during those hours.

In addition to those office hours, pastoral staff will work Sunday mornings and have regular and irregular meetings on evenings and weekends. When there is an evening meeting (i.e. board meeting, youth group, etc.), it is appropriate to leave early from the office to get time at home before the meeting. During particularly full weeks when the total workload exceeds 45-50 hours or there are many nights with ministry tasks, it is appropriate to leave early on an office day or take some additional time off during the week. In those cases, communication with the other elders is encouraged for clarity.
