The Role
As part of the Internal HR team, you’ll be a key member of the team responsible for managing the carried interest award allocation and ongoing budget tracking in partnership with General Partners, COOs in our investing verticals as well as with our Finance and Tax teams. This will include determining initial carry budgets, building models to support initial and ongoing carry allocations, tracking anticipated hiring into carry eligible roles, tracking allocation of carry against budget, leading recurring audits in partnership with Finance, providing ongoing carry allocation details to support the Tax team with the necessary information for timely processing of carry paperwork and working closely with our recruiting and HRBP teams on determining offers for carry eligible roles.
In addition, this role may participate in managing details of employee direct carry programs that cross multiple investing verticals and multiple funds. You will collaborate closely with our Finance team to support data and information necessary to communicate to participants, senior management, and other relevant groups. In addition, the role involves exposure across the business groups and partnership with various teams in HR, Tax, Legal and Finance.

- Participate and support the implementation of process improvements, internal controls, audits of carry budgets in partnership with our Finance function, and potential system integrations and/or implementations
- Collaborate within the People Practices team with Recruiting and HRBPs as well as cross functionally with key stakeholders in Finance, Tax and Investing Leadership
- Successful candidates will be highly detail oriented, process driven with a willingness to build and maintain complex models that drive our direct carry allocations and track carry budgets at the investing vertical and fund level
Minimum Qualifications
- 4-6 years of work experience working in accounting, finance, or related field, a bachelor's degree and experience with carried interest in the private equity or venture capital industry a plus
- Strong analytical skills and incredible attention to detail
- Capacity to multitask, balance multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic ever changing environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present complex concepts clearly to individuals at all levels
- Advanced skills in data analysis, model building in spreadsheets and building presentations that simply and clearly communicate complex information
- Understanding of the structure and life cycle of fundraising, carried interest, and related employee programs with Venture Capital experience a plus
- Strong partnership skills - success in this role will require building trusted connections across the HR team, with key stakeholders in our investing verticals, and with Finance and Tax teams
- Low ego, high empathy, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $221,000 - $258,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.
This role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
