The Role
In this role, you will be at the center of our digital communities who are passionate about building the future of technology: driving engagement and fostering dynamic conversations across various topics. You'll manage daily interactions in multiple active groups, identify and invite new key members, and discover new topics to launch additional communities.
This Community Manager is excited to represent a16z, genuinely curious and driven to learn about emerging technology, and skilled in creating unique and vibrant digital spaces. You will build relationships and foster dynamic conversations to push the future of technology in a positive direction. This role is pivotal in shaping our digital communities, ensuring a positive experience, and aligning community efforts with the firm’s overall goals. Success in this role looks like identifying and bringing in the right people to ensure ongoing engagement and energy in our digital group chats.
You will oversee the daily interactions in both small format digital groups. This includes: starting new and deepening ongoing conversations, asking well-formed questions to a wide variety of audiences, managing thought-provoking debates, creating rituals within individual groups, and so much more.

- Execute & measure the efficacy of community experiments, such as:
- What type of content engages our community the most?
- Who makes a good group host?
- How do we properly incentivize our hosts?
- Be able to connect & converse with a broad array of personas, including founders, execs, researchers, could-be founders, creators, and operators
- Identify potential great hosts and collaborate with highly passionate community members
Minimum Qualifications
- 4+ years in active community management or a similar lead role in a community
- Digitally native. You naturally build online communities on Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, etc
- Experience with community platforms & tooling
- Experience developing and aligning community metrics to business objectives
- Experience working with entrepreneurs, senior executives, industry leaders, and creators
- Ability to work closely & collaboratively with many teams in a high paced environment
- High EQ; able to build trust with the community
- Experience communicating, both written and verbal, to senior leaders
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $160,000 - $187,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.
This role is eligible to participate in the a16z Carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
