The Role
We are seeking a talented Data Engineer to help build scalable data infrastructure for the Crypto team. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about extracting, analyzing, and visualizing blockchain data.
The preferred location for this role is the San Francisco Bay Area or New York City. We will consider remote locations. The role may require in-office presence from time to time.
Responsibilities
- Build data pipelines that power internal and external applications
- Analyze blockchain data to support the investment team with sourcing, due diligence, benchmarking, and market research
- Work with our portfolio companies on various data projects
- Implement new AI-powered tools and processes internally
- Contribute to open source data projects

Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in a data engineering, analytics, or data science role
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL
- Proven experience building robust data pipelines using orchestration tools, for example with DBT and Databricks
- Proficiency and hands-on experience with data warehouses
- Experience extracting and analyzing onchain data
- Familiarity with crypto data platforms like Dune, Artemis, The Graph, Token Terminal, DefiLlama, and others
- Familiarity with smart contracts across different blockchain ecosystems
- Organized and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with all levels within the organization
- Low ego, high empathy, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $225,000 - $250,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.
This role is eligible to participate in the a16z Carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
