MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Bachelor’s Degree OR high school diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years of high level administrative experience in a law firm or healthcare organization.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Paralegal certificate from an accredited organization.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Four (4) Years’ experience related to preparing for depositions, hearings, trials, and conferences.
2. Four (4) Years’ experience with healthcare related laws and regulations such as HIPAA.
3. Four (4) Years’ experience investigating factual evidence of a case including interviewing witnesses, and preparing exhibits, charts, and diagrams to display information.
4. Four (4) Years’ experience drafting legal documents, such as pleadings, motions, affidavits, and subpoenas.

1. Utilize analytical ability to assist the Associate General Counsel for WVUHS in all litigation matters, ensuring compliance with WVUHS policies and procedures, along with any government rules and regulations.
2. Reviews and responds to discovery requests in a manner that complies with federal and state laws and company policies.
3. Drafts discovery requests, motions, pleadings, affidavits, memoranda, factual chronologies, case reports and subpoenas.
4. Collects, organizes and tracks production of documents, records, and other evidence in response to subpoenas, records requests and discovery requests.
5. Performs basic legal and social media research. Shows proficiency with legal terminology, and computer systems.
6. Demonstrates effective writing skills in order to prepare legal documents and to communicate with internal and external customers.
7. Shows proficient use of Microsoft Office, Excel, document management systems and other software in fulfillment of duties and responsibilities.
8. Effectively uses various relevant internet resources.
9. Assists in management of various cases in litigation or pre-litigation involving WVUHS, its member hospitals, UHA, and other related entities.
10. Reviews evidence for key elements at issue in litigation.
11. Identifies materials subject to work product doctrine and attorney-client privilege and prepares appropriate privilege logs.
12. Assists in populating, organizing and maintaining the legal department’s document management system.
13. Supports the WVUHS Legal Services Department in all matters. Will provide support to other counsel and staff within the Department as needed.
14. Monitors and maintains case management information for the WVUHS Legal Services Department.
15. Maintains attorneys’ calendars for deadlines, hearings, mediations and trials.
16. Oversees and performs close-out of completed matter files, including entry into document management system, and preparation of matter closing reports.
17. Seeks education and training opportunities.
18. Participates in continuing education activities to develop and maintain professional expertise.
19. Maintains proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the hospital is operated in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
20. Works weekends and evenings on occasion as may reasonably be required in order to meet deadlines or other litigation demands.
21. Provides adequate notice to Associate General Counsel and or Legal Services Supervisor prior to absence or lateness in accordance with departmental policy.
22. Promotes and contributes positively to the teamwork of the department by volunteering to assist co-workers, contributing ideas and problem-solving with co-workers as observed by Associate General Counsel and/or Legal Services Supervisor.
23. Participates in planning and implementing change and maintaining and improving productivity through attendance and participation in staff meetings and discussions with Associate General Counsel and/or Legal Services Supervisor.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
