GENERAL FUNCTION: "Back Fill FTE Position" - Client is seeking a highly qualified paralegal to support the Labor & Employment team of its Litigation Legal Department. The paralegal will work with all attorneys on the Labor & Employment team as well as clients across multiple geographies (both nationwide and globally) and functional areas, including Human Resources. The paralegal will work under the direct supervision of an attorney. The position is an exciting opportunity to provide support as a member of a fast-paced, dynamic, and high functioning Legal Department supporting a growing nationwide and global business.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as liaison between internal and outside counsel to ensure efficient and effective management of the Company’s wide variety of Labor & Employment litigation, which includes single and multi-plaintiff cases as well as class action lawsuits.
- Assist in all aspects of handling litigation, including receiving and reviewing service of process, managing deadlines, maintaining electronic matter management information on each case, interviewing internal contacts and locating necessary information, assisting managing attorney with investigations, assessments, settlement authority requests, document hold management, collecting information, data, and documents, discovery responses, and electronic discovery obligations.
- Conduct factual investigations and gather documents to assist Labor & Employment counsel in responding to non-litigation labor and employment issues.
- Assist in maintaining database of all labor and employment law-related documents.
- Compile information for required submissions to federal and state departments of labor and other government agencies (e.g. EEO-1 surveys, affirmative action plans) and perform related recordkeeping.
- Facilitate responses to inquiries and audit requests from government agencies and public and private subpoenas.
- Support employment counsel in drafting and monitoring employment agreements.
- Review and interpret contracts and other employment-related documents.
- Assess, investigate, and prepare written summaries related to employment-based demand letters.• Support Labor & Employment team in fulfilling reporting obligations, including preparation of internal reports and reporting of matters to insurers.
- Research and analyze legal sources such as statutes, legal decisions, and legal articles.
- Perform and/or assist with certain clerical duties such as summarizing critical documents and reading and routing incoming correspondence.
- Compile information and documents related to business immigration matters and collaborate with outside legal counsel.
- Other special projects as needed or assigned.
- At least 3 years of experience with a reputable, highly rated law firm, and/or in-house legal department; experience with a multinational company is a plus.
- Experience supporting and assisting labor and employment counsel in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional organizational skills and detail-oriented.
- Exceptional multi-tasking skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Expert level strength in MS-Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Document Management Systems.
- Proven self-starter who is innovative and able to work independently with minimal oversight.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience and comfort with leading investigations, interviews, and meetings.
- Experience preparing concise and thorough written summaries and assessments of matters.
- Ability to perform basic legal research; familiarity with U.S. federal and state employment laws and human resources processes a plus.
