About the position
We are seeking a Legal Operations Specialist to support our fast-growing Legal and Compliance team. This is an operations-focused role grounded in legal systems: you’ll handle core paralegal tasks while also helping to build and improve the systems, workflows, and databases that keep our legal function running smoothly and growing in step with the firm.
Working alongside experienced colleagues, you’ll also serve as a key liaison between Legal and Compliance and the rest of the firm, often acting as the first point of contact for various Jane Street stakeholders, including traders and technologists.
Responsibilities of the role include:
- Designing, organizing, managing, and maintaining databases to support the firm
- Support daily legal operations and oversee ad hoc projects as needed
- Organizing and maintaining centralized directories, contract templates, and support materials
- Reviewing and preparing documentation, collecting signatures, drafting, blacklining, proofreading, scanning, and completing forms
- Facilitating the collection and provision of data to stakeholders
- Identifying bottlenecks, proposing improvements, and implementing solutions that increase efficiency—including exploring how AI and legal workflow tools can improve our processes
About you
- Have a bachelor's degree and 3+ years of paralegal or legal operations experience at a law firm or in-house
- A process thinker who can identify bottlenecks, brainstorm solutions, and drive efforts to resolve them
- Have a fundamental understanding of legal documentation and corporate governance principles
- A self-starter with a strong independent work ethic; able to handle competing priorities
- A strong communicator with great people skills who can work effectively with colleagues across varied professional backgrounds
- Experienced with databases, project management, and AI tools
- Have excellent computer skills (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Google Workspace, web-based portals, and legal workflow/entity management systems)
- A reliable, courteous, and flexible team player with a “no-job-too-small” attitude
- A licensed notary, or willing to become one

What We Do
Jane Street works differently. As a liquidity provider and market maker, we trade on more than 200 trading venues across 45 countries and help form the backbone of global markets. Our approach is rooted in technology and rigorous quantitative analysis, but our success is driven by our people. Our bright, beautiful offices in the heart of New York, London, Hong Kong, and Amsterdam are open and buzzing with conversation. We come from many backgrounds and encourage travel between offices to share perspectives. Some of our best ideas come from bumping into a visiting colleague at the office coffee bar. Markets move fast. Staying competitive as we’ve grown has required constant invention—of new trading strategies, technology, and processes. We’ve found this is easier when you hire humble, kind people. They tend to help each other, and prioritize teamwork over titles. We invest heavily in teaching and training. There’s a library and a classroom in every office, because deepening your understanding of something is considered real work. Guest lectures, classes, and conferences round out the intellectual exchanges that happen every day. People grow into long careers at Jane Street because there are always new and interesting problems to solve, systems to build, and theories to test. More than twenty years after our founding, it still feels like we’re just getting started.
