The Newsweek legal team are a small global team of lawyers working across all elements of modern-day publishing. Paralegal assistance is required to aid the smooth and efficient running of team and their workflow.

The role will provide a mix of transactional, contentious and administrative tasks and will suit an organised, experienced and contentious 'career’ paralegal or legal executive.

This is a full-time role, working 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Our office is based in London, Canary Wharf, but you will have the ability to work from home anywhere in the UK. Key Responsibilities:

  • Contract Management: Overseeing and using contract management and lifecycle software.
  • Basic Contract Drafting: pro-forma agreements and templates
  • Trademark Portfolio Management: monitor renewals, liaise with external trademark attorneys, maintain up to date database of registrations.
  • Document Review and Analysis: Reviewing legal documents, drafting basic agreements (NDA’s, pro-forma agreements), maintaining and updating library of template and precedent documents.
  • Litigation Assistance: Liaise with authorised service agent, prepare pro-forma responses, legal research, preparation and collation of documents, communicate and liaise with outside counsel and opposing parties.
  • General Admin: maintain file system, scheduling, meeting planning and minuting etc.
  • Any other reasonable duties to meet the needs of the legal team.

Requirements:

  • Competent in using the Microsoft 365 suite of software (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Education to degree level, or equivalent.
  • Clear written and spoken English language.
  • Working understanding of intellectual property (trademarks, copyright).
  • Equally comfortable working on own initiative and taking instructions.
  • Strong organisational skills, keeping track of deadlines, managing case files, and maintaining effective case management systems.

Desirable:

  • Relevant paralegal experience at a media organisation.
  • Experience in a publishing (physical/online/digital) environment.
  • Knowledge/use of contract management systems.
  • Familiarity with the US legal system.
  • Knowledge of Practical Law, West Law or similar type legal resource.
  • Working knowledge of AI systems (eg CoPilot, Open AI).

Whilst experience would be preferable, training can be provided to the right applicant.
