At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom around the world, and we couldn’t do this without hiring the best people. We’re a group of hard-working overachievers who are deeply focused on building the future of finance and Web3 for our users across the globe, whether they’re trading, storing, staking or using crypto. Know those people who always lead the group project? That’s us.

There are a few things we look for across all hires we make at Coinbase, regardless of role or team. First, we look for candidates who will thrive in a culture like ours, where we default to trust, embrace feedback, and disrupt ourselves. Second, we expect all employees to commit to our mission-focused approach to our work. Finally, we seek people who are excited to learn about and live crypto, because those are the folks who enjoy the intense moments in our sprint and recharge work culture. We’re a remote-first company looking to hire the absolute best talent all over the world.

Ready to #LiveCrypto? Who you are:

  • You’ve got positive energy. You’re optimistic about the future and determined to get there.
  • You’re never tired of learning. You want to be a pro in bleeding edge tech like DeFi, NFTs, DAOs, and Web 3.0.
  • You appreciate direct communication. You’re both an active communicator and an eager listener - because let’s face it, you can’t have one without the other. You’re cool with candid feedback and see every setback as an opportunity to grow.
  • You can pivot on the fly. Crypto is constantly evolving, so our priorities do, too. What you worked on last month may not be what you work on today, and that excites you. You’re not looking for a boring job.
  • You have a “can do” attitude. Our teams create high-quality work on quick timelines. Owning a problem doesn’t scare you, but rather empowers you to take 100% responsibility for achieving our mission.
  • You want to be part of a winning team. We’re stronger together, and you’re a person who embraces being pushed out of your comfort zone.

We are looking for a Paralegal / Legal Analyst who has the ability to independently manage and execute on legal projects on our Institutional Legal team. You’ll work on our legal team focused on supporting digital assets across multiple Coinbase services (custody, trading, etc.), in various jurisdictions. You’ll help manage a rigorous workflow that involves a review of assets.

You’ll develop expertise in individual crypto tokens and broad classes of assets in a fast-evolving operational and regulatory environment. This is a highly visible role throughout the company, which will require you to build strong relationships with your teammates and business partners. You’ll collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, UI/UX, and cross-department colleagues including Business Development, International Legal, Compliance and Risk Management and engage with outside legal counsel and third party vendors.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Work on a highly collaborative team to manage digital asset support-issues across various products and services within the Coinbase ecosystem.
  • Help implement legal standards and requirements for critical processes that have ongoing business and regulatory impact.
  • Manage operations and drive efficiencies in complex, cross functional processes relating to asset support decisions across various products and services within the Coinbase ecosystem.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • Although experience with crypto or in regulatory work is not required, experience learning new technologies and/or new areas of regulation, along with a strong desire to learn about the intersection of laws and regulations with digital assets is a must.
  • Exceptional communication skills in a remote-first environment, including the ability to relay often nuanced legal concepts to all levels of the company: from corporate executives to business associates. A high degree of emotional intelligence and commercial awareness in navigating interactions with legal team members and cross-functional partners.
  • A self-starter with enthusiasm who can work independently with minimal oversight on certain projects, but who is also a team player and can contribute to group projects when needed.
  • Experience with project management, including tracking deadlines and deliverables, and communicating with attorneys, internal clients, cross-functional partners, and outside counsel to push and drive projects to completion.
  • Comfort working with multiple, simultaneous projects in different stages of development, juggling responsibilities and switching tasks/roles seamlessly and masterfully. A successful candidate will have the ability to quickly grasp difficult concepts and routinely spot issues or opportunities for improvement within our policies and processes and act with limited oversight to implement changes.
  • An ability to remain calm and organized in navigating evolving corporate policies and procedures and in a fast-developing regulatory and technological environment. A bias towards action when confronted with projects without clear instructions.

Nice to haves:

  • Familiarity with blockchain technology, digital assets, and trends in the crypto ecosystem will be highly valuable.
  • Familiarity with financial services regulations.
